Disability Comedy Writing Workshop with GotLimits, Friday the 12th from 8-10pm, Online.

The Squeaky Wheel, which is the first-ever satire publication to focus on the experience of having a disability, has partnered with the DSN and the Comedy Society to run their 2-hour virtual comedy writing workshop to celebrate Disability Pride this Freshers Week. Their talented authors are responsible for iconic pieces such as ‘You’re Not Autistic!’ Clearly Autistic Parent Scolds Autistic Child, Quadriplegic Wishes Caregivers Could Roll Better Doobies, and oh so many more.

This workshop will run from 8-10pm and, while it is free to attend, you do need to sign-up with the form in our LinkTree, as space is limited. If you sign-up and are no longer able to attend, that is okay, please let us know so that we can offer your space to someone else!

I.D.: A quartet of logos wrap around the top right corner of the post. The first is for The Squeaky Wheel, whose logo features a light blue wheel which is melting slightly, alongside their slogan: “Be loud. Be disabled. Be Squeaky” (The last of these three is in bold!). The second is the blue circular DSN logo, with its rainbow of circles. The third is the Comedy Society’s logo, which features a large white comedy mask with chipper eyes and a beaming open-mouthed smile. The fourth is the GotLimits logo, which features two cartoon people outlines (one in hot pink, the other in medium blue) with a bright yellow shield overlapping half way across their torsos. Below this, a substantial light blue text box reads: “The Squeaky Wheel, which is the first-ever satire publication to focus on the experience of having a disability, has partnered with the DSN and the Comedy Society to run their 2-hour virtual comedy writing workshop to celebrate Disability Pride this Fresher’s Week. / Whilst this event is free to attend, please fill out the form in our LinkTree to let us know you’re coming, as space is limited.” Below this is a final light blue text box, which says: “Friday 12th September, 8-10pm / Online, Sign-Ups via our LinkTree.” To the side of this last text box is a cascade of bright yellow ‘ha ha ha’s, alongside some cartoon comedy masks.

Would you like to hear about some special interests? Do you have a PowerPoint presentation about a special interest that you would like to share? An affirmative answer to either of these questions probably makes this event perfect for you!

Come along this Saturday (13th September) to the Large Rehearsal Room at 6pm to watch and/or present some PowerPoints focused on special interests.

If you would like to present a PowerPoint, please contact us by 9am on Saturday 11th September via our university email ([email protected]). Presentations should be no longer than 10 minutes each, and can be delivered in a variety of ways based on what is most accessible for you. Whether you would like to deliver it live or send us a prerecording that can be played during the event (or even a mixture of both), we will do our best to accommodate (if you want to check/discuss any accommodations that will make this event more accessible to you, please do not hesitate to email us!).

The event is held in the Large Rehearsal Room. To get to this room, head up to the top floor of the Union, and go to the wall behind the chairs, aiming for the rightmost corner. The Large Rehearsal Room is in this corner. There will be a chair outside with a sign saying, “DSN Special Interests PowerPoint Night.”

I.D.: Against a sand purple background lies a bright yellow title that reads, “Special Interests PowerPoint Night.” The writing is fluorescent, and accented by orange highlights. Below this title lies a yellow text box with a black border that reads, “Saturday 13th September, 6-8.30pm / Large Rehearsal Room, the Union.” Below this lies a large orange text box that reads, “Come along to an event of presentations about special interests. If you would like to present, see the instructions in the description.” Below this text box lie three images. The leftmost image is of a light grey cartoon projector, whose little light is pointed towards a cartoon screen that is situated in the lower centre of the post. In the bottom right corner lies the circular blue DSN logo with its rainbow of circles. Some bright yellow stars illuminate the space above these images, expressing our excitement!

If you are in need of a nice film night plus some relaxing crafts, this may be the event for you! Come along this Thursday (11th September) to a very exciting collab between the DSN and the Doctor Who Society.

The event will be held in the Large Rehearsal Room in the Union from 6.30pm until 8.30pm. The first part of this will be a screening of the episode ‘The Well’ from the most recent season of Doctor Who. If you are a fan of Sci Fi, suspense, and British Sign Language representation, this episode should hopefully be a lot of fun. The second part of this event will include some crafts, featuring the opportunity to make collages and decorate notebooks for the new academic year (all with a Doctor Who twist).

The Large Rehearsal Room is located on the top floor of the Union. After the lift or stairs, head to the wall behind the seats and into the corner on the right side. The door to the Large Rehearsal Room is in this corner. There will be a chair outside with a sign reading, “DSN x Doc Soc Collab.”

I.D.: Against a medium blue background lie three text boxes and several images. At the top of the post, a large white text box with striking blue writing reads, “DSN X Doc Soc Collab / ‘The Well’ and Craft Event.” Below this, another white text box reads, “Thursday 11th September, 6.30-8.30pm / Large Rehearsal Room, the Union.” In the centre of the post, a final text box with an azure background reads, “Come along for a screening of ‘The Well’ from the most recent season and some Dr. Who related crafts.” The bottom left of the post features the crest shaped Doc Soc logo, with its twin sonic screwdrivers crossed above a design very similar to the St Andrews crest, featuring a cartoon TARDIS in the lower portion. The bottom right of the post features the circular blue DSN logo, with its rainbow of circles. In the centre of the bottom section of the post lies a picture of the TARDIS lying atop a cartoon well, a juxtaposition that teases the suspenseful episode for this event’s screening.

TODAY!! Last minute publicity… coursework is my worst enemy right now. Come along this afternoon and get your DSN exam pack. We have a range of items available. In order to remain sustainable, we ask that you bring your own tote bag (perhaps even the DSN tote bag you got last semester), but we do have some if you need it :))

See you there :))

Main text in a rounded white box reads:
“We’re doing our revision packs giveaway again this semester to help you through the revision & coursework blues! Come along anytime to collect fidgets, allergen-friendly snacks, flash cards, puzzles & much more. If you’re lucky, you may even win a gift card to use at a local business in town!”

At the bottom in a rounded bubble:
“Monday 5 May, 12pm–4pm
Soc Room A, Union”

The design is cheerful and vibrant, with an inviting and supportive tone.
