Phill, a person within Linkage’s Community Supported Living, has been volunteering at The Eco Skegness every Tuesday for almost six months!

The ethos at the centre includes empowering people to reach their full potential by encourage volunteers to get involved in projects that they personally enjoy and benefit from, improving both their physical and mental wellbeing. Rather than simply volunteering to support the centre. This approach has been a perfect fit for Phill, who particularly enjoys painting projects and creative activities.

Over the past six months, Phill has made a valuable contribution to a range of seasonal events, helping to design, create and paint props for Christmas, Halloween and Easter celebrations. He has also willingly taken on a variety of other tasks around the site, always happy to lend a hand wherever needed.

Phill travels independently to and from the centre using public transport and completes the final part of his journey on foot, demonstrating both his commitment and independence. Recently, he had the opportunity to try wood stripping using a specialist tool. He did an excellent job, and the stripped tree trunk was later cut into sections and transformed into decorative door stops.

When asked about his volunteering experience, Phill said he “absolutely loves coming here.” He explained that volunteering has greatly increased his confidence and had a positive impact on his mental health. In his own words, it has “without a shadow of a doubt” helped him through a very difficult period and almost certainly prevented him from having a breakdown.

The relaxed, welcoming atmosphere and beautiful surroundings at The Eco Centre Skegness have played an important role in Phill’s experience. He has become a valued member of the volunteer team and gets on tremendously well with everyone. He particularly enjoys the friendly banter with Paul, the manager, and it is clear to see how comfortable, happy and relaxed he feels at the centre.

Most importantly, Phill takes great pride in producing high-quality work while enjoying himself. Through volunteering, he has found purpose, built confidence, improved his wellbeing and made a meaningful contribution to the centre. His work enhances the environment for staff, volunteers and visitors alike, while also allowing him to develop skills through activities that genuinely interest him.

Phill is a fantastic example of the positive impact volunteering can have. By providing opportunities that match individual interests and strengths, The Eco Centre has helped Phill grow in confidence, improve his mental wellbeing and become an important part of a supportive community.

Well done Phill and supportive teams 💜

A message from race runner Phoebe, a Support Worker at Linkage:

“What a brilliant morning it was, there was so much to be celebrated!

The race started at the Grimsby Town Hall, it was great to see one of our managers alongside residents and staff at Abbey House as we ran past. The people we support enjoyed seeing different music bands playing along the race. The atmosphere was electric and energy remained high. We are so proud of the people we support who completed the race. A special thank you to Sheree and Vickie, who supported the residents at Bellamy’s Cottage to make banners and brought them to the event.

It was great to see so many people from Linkage getting involved. I’m so proud to be apart of Linkage and their commitment to the people we support 💜”

Thank you Phoebe and colleagues, you did amazingly well 🎉🥳

There’s still time to help Phoebe achieve her fundraising goal for the Linkage in Bloom project, please donate via the following link:

Huge congratulations to Spencer, a Weelsby College student, who completed the ‘Ride the Dales’ cycle challenge this weekend! 🚴‍♂️

Spencer showed incredible determination, completing the 60km ride with 1800ft of elevation in an impressive 3 hours and 13 minutes.

After crossing the finish line, Spencer celebrated the best way possible - putting his legs up and enjoying a well-earned relaxing afternoon!

Everyone at Linkage is incredibly proud of you. Well done, Spencer! 👏💜

A few weeks ago, Connel and Terry enjoyed a fantastic coach trip to Hull to watch Faulty Towers at Hull Theatre 🎭

They started the day with a coach ride to Hull before spending some time shopping in the town centre 🛍️ Afterwards, they stopped for a well-deserved lunch and a rest before heading to the theatre for the show.

It’s safe to say a great time was had by all, with plenty of laughs throughout the performance! 😄💜

Riverside took another culinary trip around the world… this time exploring the USA 🇺🇸🌍

Everyone came together to share what they already knew about America, while listening to music to help set the scene 🎶

The group then enjoyed a delicious homemade feast - prepared by some of the people we support - including fried chicken and mac & cheese 🍗🧀

To finish the evening, everyone treated themselves to American cream soda and homemade apple pie with custard 🥧🥤

A fantastic evening full of culture, conversation and amazing food! 💜
