The Brow Hike

The Brow Hike The next Brow Hike will be held on the 21st and 22nd March 2026. Entries are accepted from members of all youth groups.

Organised and run by the 24th St Paul's Pennine Calder Scout Group, the Brow Hike is a competitive incident hike of around 30km (19 miles), held annually over 2 days in March each year. Set in the scenic Calder Valley, the hike broadly follows the old Sowerby Bridge Urban District Council Boundary. The hike is open to teams of 4 people aged between 11 and 15, although the total age of the team when added together must not exceed 56.

Getting feedback like this… a credit to their families and leaders. ❤️

I wanted to take a moment to praise your Scouts for their exceptional courtesy and awareness today while out on their hike.

I was riding my horse when we came across some of your group carrying large rucksacks, which understandably made my horse a bit nervous! Your Scouts handled the situation brilliantly—remaining calm, standing aside, and even offering to remove their packs (which was very thoughtful, though not necessary). Several of them also moved well off the road, giving us plenty of space and time to settle and pass safely.

Their actions made a real difference and reflect excellent training, leadership, and respect for others sharing the countryside. It’s always reassuring to see young people demonstrating such consideration and responsibility.

Please pass along my sincere thanks to the group—they were a credit to Scouting.

What an incredible weekend at this year’s Brow Hike! With fantastic weather from start to finish, the weekend has been nothing short of amazing, and the smiles on the scouts’ faces said it all. I’m immensely proud of everyone involved—the young people, scout leaders, parents, and the entire Brow Hike staff and volunteers. The teams demonstrated outstanding positivity, resilience, and teamwork throughout.

A huge thank you to everyone who made the event possible: our checkpoint staff, camp staff, sweep team, Calderdale Radio volunteer team, catering team, the dedicated leaders who gave their time to train teams, and the ever-supportive parents. Most importantly, thank you to the young people who are at the heart of everything we do—you made the weekend truly special.

Congratulations to all our teams for their fantastic efforts, and especially to this year’s top three:

🥇 1st Place: 14th Airedale – “The Brow Bros”
🥈 2nd Place: 12th Halifax “P” Team
🥉 3rd Place: 24th St Paul’s “C” Team

A special mention to our Endeavour Trophy winners—every member of Team 5 and Team 16—for their remarkable behaviour out en route which was noticed and reported to us by a member of the public.

And a big congratulations to our joint Best Team Leaders: Hazel from the 12th Halifax/Hebden mixed team and Heidi from 24th St Paul’s—an incredible achievement!

This weekend has once again shown the strength, spirit, and community of scouting at its very best. Well done everyone.

See you next year!

We’ve sent an email out to groups recently, but just a quick reminder in case it’s been missed!

One of our regular Brow Hike teams currently has an extra Scout who would love to take part this year and has been training for the event, but they need a few others to form a team.

If your group has any spare Scouts who might like to join up to make a team, we’d love to hear from you so we can help make this happen.

Please check the email we sent and get back to us if this might work for your group.

Thank you! 🥾

Today we celebrate the incredible women and girls who make The Brow Hike what it is.

From the Guides and Scouts taking on the challenge of the hills, navigation and incidents, to the volunteers planning routes, running checkpoints and operating radios— The Brow Hike wouldn’t happen without you.

Your determination, teamwork and leadership inspire everyone on the event.

Here’s to the women who lead, organise, encourage and take on the challenge every year. Thank you for everything you do to make The Brow Hike possible.

Happy International Women’s Day! 💜

Today we celebrate the incredible women volunteers who give their time, energy and heart to Scouts. We are so grateful for everything you do. Thank you.
