Specialist mobility support opens up new opportunities for Formby family
Community Link Foundation is proud to support four-year-old Ava with funding towards a specialist buggy that will make a huge difference to her everyday life.
Ava lives with left-sided hemiplegic cerebral palsy, a condition that affects her strength, balance, and mobility. As a result, Ava gets tired quickly and finds it difficult to walk longer distances safely, limiting her ability to take part in everyday childhood activities.
Thanks to this grant, Ava will receive a Special Tomato jogger buggy, along with a rain cover, helping her to travel comfortably and safely. The buggy provides the essential support and stability that a standard stroller cannot offer, meaning that Ava can go on nursery trips, enjoy visits to the park and join family outings without becoming overtired or distressed.
Without this equipment, Ava would still struggle day to day. She gets tired quickly and her coordination isn’t as strong, which means she’s more likely to trip or fall, and even short distances can feel like too much. It can leave her missing out on things, feeling frustrated, and not always able to join in with other children.
Ava’s mum, Anna, said: “This will make such a huge difference to Ava’s life. It means she’ll be able to go out for longer, enjoy trips with her friends and family, and not get so tired or upset.
“As Ava grows, carrying her and supporting her physically is becoming more difficult. This buggy will not only improve Ava’s independence and confidence but also provide help all of us to care for her. We’re so grateful for the support - it really does mean everything to the family.”
Enda Rylands, Chair of Trustees at Community Link Foundation, said:
“We are delighted to be able to support Ava and her family with this essential piece of equipment. At Community Link Foundation, we are committed to helping children and families overcome barriers and access the opportunities they deserve.
“This grant will allow Ava to experience more of the world around her, safely and comfortably, and to take part in the same everyday moments as her friends.
“None of the support we provide would be possible without the generosity of our sponsors and supporters. Their continued commitment enables us to make a real and lasting difference in the lives of families like Ava’s.”
Community Link Foundation remains dedicated to supporting individuals and families across Southport, Formby and Ormskirk, ensuring that those who need help the most can access the resources that make everyday life more manageable and meaningful.
