The Palette Club was formed in 1921 to further the interests of Southport artists, both professional and amateur, by holding an annual exhibition of their works. Invitation to exhibit is extended to all artists resident in or formerly associated with Southport by birth, residence or education and all artists throughout Sefton. Artists resident within an eight mile radius of Southport also qualify.
Unlike many other academies or societies the Palette Club has neither associates nor members and is not a club in the accepted sense but is simply an Executive Council, whose meetings are held for the organising of the annual open exhibition and for the furtherance of interest in Southport artists and their work. For many years Southport has produced a wealth of artistic talent second to none. This we may fairly claim to be in no small measure attributable to the encouragement given by successive Councils of the Palette Club. The Council is greatly indebted to a large body of Patrons for their continuing interest and support for the aims and work of the Club.
