Friends of Hesketh Park Sensory garden page We are a group of volunteers who work together to maintain the sensory garden. Welcome to our page!

Up until now we have just had a group but we are limited in what we can do with a group (when engaging with others) so created a page too! 😀💚🌷🌻

A kind donation of 100 Delp Blue Hyacinth bulbs gifted by the Hesketh Park Rose Garden and Tuesday group. Thank you very much, all planted. Now we must be patient and wait for spring!

Nice surprise today. I was in the garden and saw some people moving about around the side. I first thought something had happened but as I got closer saw that it was a couple with a plant donation! A lovely couple who, like many others, have been quietly adding to the plants in the sensory garden for everyone to enjoy.

I’ve said it before but the sensory garden really is the result of a community effort 💚

Also thought I’d add a few photos of both today’s donation plus some of the lovely colours still present in the garden.

If you’ve been in the sensory garden recently you may have noticed one of our volunteers doing a fabulous job of removing HUGE chunks of rock out of the ground at the far end, so that we can start to fill it up with new plants.

Last week the D of E boys decided to join him and they did a very hard mornings work as rock apprentices.

With our regular rock breaker away the boys carried the torch and once again spent the morning lugging rocks out of the ground (I think they like it!).

I need to say a thank you to the D of E teens as officially this was their last session after spending 3 months helping out. That’s our second group that has done a smashing job. As the saying goes, ‘the kids are alright’. 💚

Also I rarely go a post without including our little Robin friends. 💚

Morning all,

There has been a bike dumped in the garden. 😔

If it’s yours and you were done with it (it’s clearly broken) please remember the park isn’t a tip and come and collect it 🙂

Thank you!

Todays planting more strawberry 🍓 plants to continue filling the strawberry patch and Calendula for colour later in the year and dianthus for next year. Following the rain the weeds are growing everywhere, if you are free Sunday morning please come and join us in getting them under control. If you have a hoe or rake please bring them along.

Back in early July we put a request out for help after we were struggling with watering the garden.

Not one but TWO people came forward with hoses. With those connected to the hose donated in June it means we can now reach from the water source to pretty much the end of the garden! Amazing! No more dragging hundreds of buckets and watering cans across the park.

I’m not sure if the people in question would like to be named but we just wanted to say a HUGE thank you to them.

The sensory garden really is a community project. From our amazing (the best) volunteers to all the people in the community who have donated plants, seeds and tools (and those who drop in for a chat). 💚💚

As always, if you’d like to pop along to volunteer for a one off, or more regularly, drop us a line either here or on [email protected]

Plenty of plants still doing their best to please both us and the Insects that feed off them
