Purpose of the Meeting

This SGM is convened to conduct elections for the positions of Branch Chairman and Branch Secretary, following formal notification that:

Should such vacancies arise, elections may be held for:

• Vice Chairman
• Membership Secretary
• Committee Member(s)

Any posts that remain filled by their current holders will be proposed for confirmation for a further 3 year term, in keeping with the standard branch officer tenure (Handbook: Elections & Rules sections).

All elections, primary and contingent, will be for a 3 year term.

Nominations Procedure

In accordance with the Handbook’s requirements for proper nomination, proposer/seconder support, and submission deadlines (Elections section, pp. 45–48):

All nominations must comply with the eligibility, conduct, and procedural standards set out in the Handbook’s Rules and Elections sections.

It is 35 years since the UK Armed Forces played a major role in defeating the Iraqi military in the Gulf War.

More than 53,000 British personnel fought courageously as part of a US-led coalition force to drive Saddam Hussein’s forces from Kuwait.

47 of their number would lose their lives in combat. Their sacrifice will never be forgotten. 🇬🇧

🚨 Final push! 🚨
Our very own Alison Moore Royal Navy Veteran, absolute powerhouse, and the woman behind Southport’s brilliant fitness community for over‑55s Fiftyfivefit, is about to take on the Malta Marathon to raise vital funds for the Royal British Legion Southport Armed Forces Community Hub. 🇬🇧💙

Here’s the reality…
Our Hub doesn’t receive any funding from Head Office.
None.
Every month we need around £600 just to cover the basics, electric, water, rent, insurance… all the boring but essential stuff that keeps the doors open.
And behind those doors?
Our volunteers support Southport's huge Armed Forces Community with everything from a simple brew and a chat… to mental health support, financial struggles, illness, injury and the tougher moments of life.

This is frontline, community support.
And Alison is running 26.2 miles in Malta, from Mdina through Valletta to Sliema, to make sure we can keep doing it.

👉 If you can give even a couple of pounds, it genuinely makes a huge difference.
👉 If you can share this post, that helps just as much.
Let’s get Alison over the finish line AND help keep our Hub going for the people who need it most.
💛 Donate here: https://gofund.me/39a779dbf
💛 Share to spread the word, every share helps.

Thank you for backing Alison. Thank you for backing our Hub
Let’s do this. 💙💪🇬🇧

Update on the Southport Spitfire ✈️

Southport’s incredible crocheted Polish Spitfire has captured the hearts of the town over the last couple of weeks, a remarkable gift from The Royal British Legion Community Engagement in the North West, created in collaboration with the talented Southport Hookers.

Our branch volunteers have loved supporting its construction, and we have been truly moved by the amazing support and the many heartfelt messages from people, across the world (🤯) who wanted to see it on display even longer.

Regrettably, after lots of brilliant meetings with town stakeholders, and taking into account Health & Safety, insurance, and practical requirements, the Spitfire will come down as planned on Friday 7th November, to allow the town to begin the next stage of preparations for the festive season after Remembrance. 😢👋🏻

As part of this regional project, the timing and planning have been coordinated across a wider team, and our branch has been proud to play a supporting role. The Spitfire will remain a cherished memory for all who saw it and all those who worked so hard to build it and install it. Over the next couple of years, it will head on a journey to visit other towns as part of future projects - but it was born in Southport 🥰

We’ve already started ideas meetings for next year’s display… so what would you like to see in Southport next November?

💙 Thank you to everyone who has enjoyed and celebrated this unique display with us. Your support and enthusiasm have been truly inspiring and will have put Southport on the map and helped us raise even more funds for the Poppy Appeal this year. 🫡
