Behind every grant is a story of care, resilience and community.

Since April 2026, we have granted more than £1.6 million to 50 charities across England and Wales, helping organisations continue their vital work and reach more people in need. This has been made possible by the generosity of Freemasons and their families.

One of those organisations is Saints Foundation, the charity of Southampton FC Thanks to a £50,000 grant, Saints Foundation's Team Mates project will support around 330 boys aged 9-15 over the next two years, helping them develop positive relationships, challenge harmful stereotypes, build emotional resilience and become positive role models in their schools and communities. The programme provides young people with a safe space to explore topics including respect, boundaries, online safety and gender equality, helping to create safer and more inclusive communities for future generations

Our new name represents the same commitment to supporting communities, with an even greater ambition to create lasting change where it is needed most.

And as soon as it started, the Masonic summer break draws to a close. Tomorrow we're back to our regular Lodge of Instruction evenings where we not only practice for our October meeting but have a good catch up with brothers we might not have seen as often as we'd like.

At last, we have a summer social. Tonight at the Cork Dork in Chalkwell. Will be great to catch up with those that can make it.

How a routine PSA test helped save my life

When Simon Harvey of the Fellowship and Unity Lodge No. 8680 dropped into a PSA screening session run by CHAPS (The Men’s Health Charity) and supported by Provincial Grand Lodge of Essex, he genuinely did not expect anything to come of it.

There was no dramatic reason for going. He had been working from home that day. A few friends mentioned they were attending. He had a gap between calls. He felt completely fine — no symptoms, no warning signs, nothing to suggest that anything might be wrong. So, he thought, “Why not?”

After a friendly chat with volunteers, he gave a small tube of blood for a PSA test and went home thinking little more about it.

We made it. One hundred years done and dusted and heres to the next hundred!
A fantastic Centenary meeting held at Saxon Hall and graced by the attendance of the RW PGM Paul William Tarrant and a number of other Grand Officers.
In the first part of the meeting, W.Bro Steve Bateman was installed in to the Chair of King Solomon by W.Bro Tom Broad and the officers for the ensuing year appointed and invested.
After a brief comfort break, we were joined by our friends from Shoeburyness Lodge no 6665 and then followed the ceremonial entrance of the RW PGM (and APGMs Brian McGuinness and Richard Jordan) led by his ProvGDC Dave Hawtin.
The Lodge was presented with its Centenary warrant and then followed an Oration by the ProvAGChap Tej Bharj and a brief history of the Lodge by W.Bro Francis Stephens.
A vote then approved a number of charitable donations, namely:
£1250 to SSAFA (the Armed Forces Charity)
£1200 to Dementia UK
£1000 to LifeLites
£1250 to SNAP
£1250 to Lennox Children cancer.
£1000 to the Provincial Grand Master for the charity of his choice
£500 to the Provincial Almoners Fund
£500 to TLC Essex
The WM presented the £1000 cheque to the PGM who immediately donated it to TLC, the Almoners cheque to W.Bro Brian McGuinness and the TLC cheque to W.Bro John Bond.
The WM received a Bronze patron certificate from TLC for our donations.
A total of 120 brethren then dined in style with a sumptuous meal in the Jubilee Suite
