This Friday night, we’re making things. ✂️🖍️📚

Join .art + for an evening of cutting, sticking, drawing, writing, experimenting and making little publications of your own.

Zine Club is a relaxed, analogue creative session for anyone who fancies a couple of hours around a table with paper, pens, magazines, scissors, glue and good company.

You don’t need to be an artist.
You don’t need to arrive with an idea.
Just come curious.

Bring a bottle if you fancy it, or we’ll have tea and coffee waiting. ☕️🍷

The friendships that begin in the roda.
The conversations that continue long after.
The familiar faces that return year after year.

So much of what makes Brazilarte special lives in the moments we share together.

And that's something we love about our annual festival.

It's time to reconnect, make new friends, share stories, celebrate our Brazilian cultural heritage and make memories together.

This year, we're bringing everyone together for three days of capoeira, music and community, including a party on Saturday 7 November. Because gathering together is as much a part of our story as the movement itself.

Meet the people behind the circle

We’re Mestra Sininha and Mestre Biscuim, the two Mestres behind Brazilarte and your festival hosts.

Capoeira has brought so much into our lives. Music, movement, friendships, shared experiences and a community that continues to grow through the people who become part of it.

Through teaching, training and gathering together, we have the privilege of sharing something we both love and watching others find their own place within.

And every November, our festival brings so all of that together.

Old friends reconnect. New friendships begin. We share knowledge, celebrate our roots and create memories that stay with us long after the final roda.

We’re looking forward to welcoming you this year.

Roots run deep 🌱

Before each festival, people gathered around a shared admiration of capoeira.

The call of the berimbau. The energy of the roda. Friendships formed through movement, music and the simple act of showing up.

So many people have helped shape the story of Brazilarte. Every gathering, every class, every celebration is part of something that continues to grow.

In November, we come together again.

Three days to celebrate our roots, honour the people who brought us here and continue the story we’re building together.

Outside the Odeon cinema, Victoria Circus, Southend

We hope you will be able to join us on Saturday 19th September from 2-4pm to celebrate the Southend Sails installation on Southend High Street.

From 2-4pm, there will be performances from Brazilarte and an embroidery workshop where you will be able to make a textile badge with the sails’ artist Katrin Mountain , using our leftover silk material and inspired by the sails, to take home with you.

How do you know when you’ve found community?

A little story.

When Marli, our youngest, was just a baby, we would often place her somewhere on the mats at the end of class. Everyone would be lying around, stretching and catching up. It was a safe space for her to explore.

Our first Brazilarte Academy had an incredible energy. It also had some pretty major flaws. It wasn’t insulated, and would be freezing in winter and hot in summer.

When it was warm, we’d turn off the lights at the end of sessions to save energy and help bring down the temperature. One side of the academy was lined with big windows, and the early afternoon sun would cast bright patches across the mats.

On this particular day, I placed Marli among everyone on the mats. Shortly afterwards, the sun came out and beamed down on her like a spotlight.

What happened next was unplanned and pure magic.

Baby Marli noticed she had an audience and began moving around the mats.

Without a word, everyone in the room began following her lead and imitating her movements.
Marli caught on and began leading her very first class!

Looking back, I realise that this was community in its most authentic form.

Without ego.
Led by love and kindness
And curiosity reigning over competition.

There was no plan.
But this became our blueprint.
It’s how we’ve been stewarding community ever since.
