Southend-on-Sea Fairtrade Network Local Fairtrade campaigning and awareness movement in Southend-on-Sea. What does this status mean?

Southend was awarded Fairtrade Borough status by the Fairtrade Foundation in October 2010. The campaign to achieve and sustain this is backed by local volunteers, organisations and the borough Council. Well, much more than just a shiny plaque on the Civic Centre wall - we have the joy of knowing that people in Southend have the information they need to choose whether to buy Fairtrade products, and

the opportunity to buy them in local shops, cafes, schools and restaurants. The net result of that - is more people making a decent living in the developing world!
