A man has been banned from every M&S store and BP service station in England and Wales for five years after being caught stealing in by officers from Southend Local Policing Team.

The 44-year-old was arrested on 3 February after officers stopped him as he left the BP service station on London Road. Officers also recovered a bag full of stolen meat from the M&S shop on the same site.

In court, magistrates heard that he had also stolen from the BP garage in West Street the day before, as well as on New Year’s Eve.

The five year criminal behaviour order bans the man from all Marks and Spencer stores and all bp service stations in England and Wales, the Sainsbury's Local in and the Co-op in .

Throughout the year, our police dogs help us catch criminals and keep our neighbourhoods safe.

Often, they don’t know who they are looking for but they can sniff their way through rough terrain to track and pursue offenders.

Our PDs have a very special set of skills that they have acquired, thanks to their handlers who are trained to ensure their dog is in tip-top condition.

Our dogs have skills that make it very difficult for offenders to get away!

They will look everywhere! and will pursue anyone involved in crimes in .

They will find them, we will arrest them, and the court will deal with them.

Over the festive period, you’ll have the opportunity to meet a or two - so stay tuned!

Who knows – you may even see some

Most of all, at Christmas time, we want to thank them for all they do: we couldn’t do it without them.

A woman was arrested and Class A drugs and suspected stolen property were seized after officers from Southend Neighbourhood Policing Team (NPT) executed a warrant in .

Officers entered an address on Ronald Park Avenue under Section 23 of the Misuse of Drugs Act following reports of activity linked to drug dealing and anti-social behaviour.

The six occupants of the address were searched and a woman was arrested on suspicion of possession of Class A drugs.

Officers recovered what is believed to be crack co***ne, as well as four knives and a BB gun.

They also seized a dozen pedal bikes, six e-scooters and an XL Bully dog that was loose in the garden.

Sergeant Alex Farr of Southend NPT said:

“We had multiple reports of activity linked to drug use at the address and moved quickly to enter the property.

“Inside we found a substantial amount of what we suspect to be stolen property, as well as Class A drugs and a number of weapons.

“Drug dealing exploits vulnerable people and is linked to many other forms of offending from shoplifting to serious violence.

“As part of proactive problem-solving team in the NPT, we are committed to shutting down the supply lines and limiting dealers’ ability to operate.

“If you suspect drug dealing is taking place where you live, please report it to us or Crimestoppers and we will investigate.”

This week is Sceptre, a national week-long focus on knife crime. In Essex, the focus is all year round.

We’ve seen a 9% reduction in knife-enabled crime year-on-year - that’s 135 fewer incidents. Since 2019, incidents of knife-enabled crime have fallen by 16%.

Alongside local partners, I recently arranged a community meeting in response to anti-social behaviour and crime around Warrior Square.

We were joined by local Milton councillors (Cllr Sam Allen and Cllr Cheryl Nevin), Essex Police and representatives from the Southend District Neighbourhood Watch, to share their experiences, explore solutions and support each other.

The best part? Residents are now planning to set up their own Neighbourhood Watch and Residents Association. This is a fantastic step towards building a safer, stronger and more connected community!
