The London Shipwreck Project

The London Shipwreck Project The London remains on Historic England's, High-Risk Register, due to its location on the edge of one of the world's busiest shipping channels.

The London shipwreck project is about a small group of divers, who share their experiences out on the wreck of the London, which accidentally exploded in the Thames Estuary in 1665, whilst in preparation for the Second Anglo-Dutch War. The active volunteer dive regularly monitor the wreck's deterioration caused by the constant shipping activity that passes so close to the site. The dive team is re

ally appreciative of the support provided by the Nautical Archaeology Society, and Their Save The London Campgain. Also, grateful for the continuing guidance from the team's Archaeological advisor Mark Beattie-Edwards, CEO of the Nautical Archaeology Society.

Des is certainly a rope expert and thanks for his support, it has certainly helped us out in our understanding of the cordage, which was recovered from the site.

Big thanks Southend Pier & Railway for allowing us to host our second Walk and Talk today. It's so nice to be able share our experiences from the horses mouths of how most of the recoveries/discoveries and their context were made, giving us a much better understanding of what's left of this historic wreck site. Also, to Darren for accommodating us all in his wonderful the Offshore restaurant at the pierhead.

We're looking forward too our second Walk and Talk this coming Saturday. Sharing our experiences as avocational maritime archaeologists, which includes the exciting discoveries the team have made over the many years of diving this Historic wreck site, which lies in the murky depths of the Thames Estuary and the continuing struggles we face.

A walk along the length of Southend Pier with the amazing volunteer dive team that have been working on the shipwreck for over a decade.

With the unfavourable divable winds from the east and larger building tides. It was decided to have the 'Joyride' lifted out of the water for her first engine service and spruce up. There's so much preparations behind the scenes, just to make the dives happen. It's being the first to observe exciting new discoveries, which makes it so much worth while.

All done ! Muscles are very sore but it was a good run. Time for a sea dip then we can watch it on TV
