Oh, what a night. It started with Kenny Garrick welcoming us with his saxophone music, followed by Brian Shajari, who led us into dinner with his bagpipes. Eddie Lawrence opened the event with the missing service person table. We then kicked off, and while starters were being served, we sold tickets for the two wheelbarrows full of booze and played Heads and Tails. After the main course, we drew the winning tickets for the barrows; Steve Skull and Fabrizio Facchini were the winners. All the while this was going on we had a magician and a characturist going round entertaining the guest at the tables. Following the meal, Commander Marie Whitehouse, our patron, gave a brief rundown of the work we have done over the eight years we have been operating. She finished by introducing our RAF guest speakers, WO Valerie Aplin-Mathieson and Wing Commander Colin Mathieson, who told us how they became the first mother and son to be deployed to war together, not once but twice: first in the Gulf and second in Afghanistan. After the speeches, we were entertained by DJ Martin Drake, which was only interrupted by the raffle and auction. We were very fortunate to be sponsored with prizes from RBL Southampton, Victory Inn Hamble, Asda Chandlers Ford, Tesco Bursledon, M&S Hedge End, B&Q, Pickwell Farm, Travis Perkins, Jewson, Novotel, Chiltern Manor Hotel, Figarati, Orange Rooms, Seabreeze Airbnb, Piccolo Mondo, Peps Peplow, Lush, and many more, along with private individuals, many of whom were at the ball. Because of all this, £6,170.59 was raised to help us continue our work.
Now for a bit of a rest before we start arranging for next year.

Please wish Claire Walker the very best of luck as she takes on this mammoth challenge for us

Here I am looking like a walking nerd at ungodly-o’clock am.

I’ll try and walk 25.5 miles today for Southampton Veterans’ Trust and Romsey Rotary Club.

If you’d like to sponsor me or WhatsApp me with support that would be much appreciated.

The Southampton Veterans Drop in Centre, is open for our last and 5th session on Friday 11th September, between 10am and 6pm for help, advice company and a bloody good brew.

Natasha, the local DWP Armed Forces Champion will be in the centre between midday and 3pm, to offer benefit and state pension advice.

Jules, one of our 5 fantastic counsellors, will also be on site to help look after your mental health.

The kettle will be on, the biscuit tin open and there will be cake.

FANCY JOINING OUR TEAM OF VOLUNTEERS?

Can you spare an hour or two? Now we have extended our opening hours we are in need of some more volunteers.

The only skills required is to be a friendly face, be able to converse, have a good ear and, maybe, make a good cuppa. If the answer is yes, please pop in when we are open or leave a message on the centre's social media.

During the summer we had a visit from Shay Bugden, Community Champion for ASDA Chandlers Ford. After we had shown him round the centre we sat on the sofa with a brew as he asked how he / ASDA could help us.
June saw us in his store with our awareness / fundraising stall and then again in early July. Late July we got a call from Shay to tell us he had nominated us for an ASDA Community Grant.
Today he came back to the centre where he presented us with a cheque for £500. Tracey Gaylor and Ron Pimm were on hand to recieve it and Tracey being the camera shy one took the photo.
A massive thank you to Shay and ASDA and a special thankyou to Joey Smith
