Date of Warrant: December 13th 1920 Date of Consecration March 11th 1921 Named after Titus Flavius Vespasian (AD 9-79) founder of The Roman Station of Clausentum on the banks of the River Trisantona, AD 43-51 at the place now known as Bitterne Manor on the River Itchen. Vespasian was made consul in Britain in AD 51 and proclaimed Emperor of Rome following the death of Vitellius in AD 69. He built many fine structures in Rome, including the Amphitheatre now known as the Coliseum. He died on 24th June AD 79. The members of Clausentum Lodge 1461 in signing the Petition to founder a daughter Lodge on 22nd October 1920 honoured the Roman founder of Clausentum by naming the new Lodge "Vespasian". The Lodge Crest has a reproduction of a silver denarius bearing the head of Vespasian and the inscription 'IMP CAESAR VESPASIANUS AUG' and the Lodge Motto 'SERVADO FIDEM' meaning 'I will keep Faith'.
