The number of volunteers coming along to our work party on Saturday was amazing. In addition to many of our regular volunteers turning up, we welcomed Lisa (one of our local residents) as well as Catherine and her daughter Alexa; and Kirsty and her daughter Beau (who came from slightly further afield), all drawn to join us after reading our posts on Facebook!).
As well as a successful litter-pick, some of the paths were cleared of debris and foliage was cut back. Our new members also helped to build a hurdle at the top of a steep bank designed to deter people away from walking too near the edge of it. A big thank you to all our volunteers - it was a great team effort! And finally, our thanks must go to John for providing yet another marvellous sponge cake to enjoy with our drinks before we disbanded at the end of the session!!

We definitely have a small colony of parakeets in the copse now. I have heard them over several days but have not seen them until this afternoon when about 10 if them flew overhead . Noisy bunch.
Not sure if they are detrimental to the local wildlife or not or can happily live alongside its existing incumbents.

Some great work was carried out in the copse at our work party on Saturday 9 May - one of the rotten steps was replaced, some steps were levelled out with more aggregate, a litter-pick was done and foliage was cut back along some of the footpaths.
We are trying to keep on top of the amount of fallen leaves along the footpaths so that come autumn there will be less mud underfoot so the new leaf-blower was made good use of too.
Several visitors to the copse stopped to chat whilst we were working including a couple enjoying a ramble in the copse with a 6-month old baby (Stevie) and her young brother (Arthur); as well as a lady walking her two pet ferrets who were both thoroughly enjoying snuffling around in the dry leaves alongside the footpath (see photo) !πŸ™‚
