We're on BBC One this Sunday, 10:00β10:30am, talking about furniture poverty.
Our Warehouse Manager Ian spoke to the BBC about what furniture poverty actually looks like. Around 6 million people in the UK live without at least one essential furniture item, and a million are in deep furniture poverty β three or more items missing. In Southampton and Hampshire, we see the reality every week: families who've fled violence or come out of homelessness, handed the keys to a flat with nothing in it. A child doing homework on the floor. A family eating off their laps because there's no table.
That's not an abstract problem. A furniture pack β beds, a sofa, kitchen items, a kitchen table and chairs β costs around Β£180. We can keep that figure so low because most of what we deliver is donated, and we give it a second life rather than sending it to landfill.
One mum I met hadn't told her kids we were coming. They came home from school to a home.
Tune in, Sunday, 10:00β10:30am, BBC One. And if what you see moves you: a one-off gift helps one family once, but a monthly gift means we can plan. Β£5 a month puts fuel in the van for one more delivery. Β£20 a month covers a full month of deliveries to families who need us. Whatever you can give, every month, means one less family on the floor.
