We help individuals and families facing hardship and disadvantage by providing furniture and other items and by offering volunteering opportunities

SCRATCH (Southampton City and Region Action to Combat Hardship) was formed on 1 October 1999, to manage the social action projects initiated by the founding charity Southampton City Mission. The memorandum and articles of the company state its purpose as: -

The relief of the effects of poverty for individuals and families
in the city of Southampton and Central Southern Hampshire. It is our intent

ion, through various social initiatives, to respond to identified practical needs, providing relief for people regardless of
age, status or background.

Our shortage list is growing, and local people and families are waiting for essential household items:

Cot rugs

A huge thank you to all our amazing volunteers! ❤️

Today we held our annual SCRATCH BBQ to celebrate the wonderful people who give their time, energy and skills to support our work throughout the year.

We were delighted to welcome The Lord Mayor of SouthamptonThe Right Worshipful Councillor Pat Evemy. Thank you for joining us and helping to make the occasion even more special.

A special thank you to SCRATCH trustee Rob Davis and Sodexo, who generously donated and provided all the delicious BBQ food. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed it, and your kindness helped make today a great success!

To all our volunteers: we simply couldn't do what we do without you. Thank you for everything you do for SCRATCH and our community. 🌭☀️🎉

Honoured to be representing SCRATCH this evening at the Right Worshipful the Lord Mayor of Southampton, Councillor Pat Evemy's Courtesy Calls.

It's a fantastic opportunity to introduce SCRATCH to the Lord Mayor and fellow organisations from across Southampton, sharing how we help individuals and families by providing household essentials to turn empty houses into homes.

Thank you to the Lord Mayor for bringing together so many charities and community organisations. We look forward to building new connections and continuing to support local people in need.

Kitchen Items Needed — Especially the Basics 🍽️ This week we’re focusing on everyday kitchen essentials to help families and individuals setting up home after hardship. The right basics turn an empty space into a home and make it possible to cook a hot meal. 🧡

We especially need:

🥘 Pots and pans (with lids), oven dishes, baking trays
🍽️ Plates, bowls, mugs, glasses, cutlery
🔌 Kettles and toasters (good working order)
🔪 Chopping boards, utensils, can openers, tea towels
🫙 Storage containers and mixing bowls
🧽 Washing-up bowls, drying racks
🪟 Curtains (pairs, clean, any size) — we’re very short

We would like to thank WI******ER MUSICALS AND OPERA SOCIETY for choosing us as their CHARITY OF THE YEAR. We were invited along to watch Sister act and it was fantastic! WMOS raised £1114.02 which will go towards helping some of the most vulnerable adults and children in Hampshire. They have another performance coming up in Novemeber..........Beauty and the beast. They will be supporting us again so please do go along and support both them and us.

As part of Volunteers’ Week, we’re saying a huge thank you to Liz, who has been volunteering with us for almost 2 and a half years. 💙

Liz helps sort our bedding donations and does an amazing job making sure everything is clean, neatly folded and correctly sized before it goes out to clients.

She always goes above and beyond to make sure the people we support receive high quality donations that help them feel cared for and valued.
