Sholing Valleys Study Centre

Sholing Valleys Study Centre Sholing Valleys Study Centre was set up to preserve the area that later became the Miller's Pond Local Nature Reserve.

For more detail about what we do please visit our website. Here you can read about our history, what we do, and how to support us. Spanning around 20 acres, Miller's Pond is one of Southampton's largest and most diverse Local Nature Reserves. Since 1988 Sholing Valleys Study Centre has been working as a registered charity to preserve Miller's Pond and its surrounding areas, whilst educating the pu

blic about this unique environment and the wildlife found here. It lies 1.9km from the shores of Southampton Water at Weston Point with which it is connected by over 3 and a half kilometres of continuous valley habitat, the Shoreburs Greenway. Station Road marks the northern edge of the Miller's Pond site and the southern edge is formed by the railway and Portsmouth Road. The valley divides at Miller's Pond and the two branches continue to the north and north-east, to Bursledon Road at Sholing Common and continues up Shoreburs Greenway to Weston Common respectively. The site is owned by Southampton City Council, but managed by Volunteers.

Hope you're staying cool out there.

Both our Friday and Sunday conservation sessions are still going ahead.

We have lots of sun screen, will be taking hydration breaks, and choosing tasks that keep you in the shade.

We are happy for people to just come down for a couple of hours, there is no expectation that you will stay for the whole session.

Stay cool.

This week is volunteers week.

Everything we do, we do it because we are lucky enough to have volunteers.

This last week we had a Friday conservation session, where 14 wonderful people gave up their time. Paul Jordan Beth McKeeman Andy White to name a few!
That same evening we held a bat walk, where 4 bat experts and a moth man Pedro Pires gave up their time to teach people about the animals on the reserve.
And on Sunday we had another conservation session. Where an incredible 30 people came down to help manage the reserve, and keep it tidy with litter picking. Way too many to mention! But honorary mention to Mac Ince who led all three of these events.

If you've ever come down and helped out, we love you. Thank you for being so generous with your time.
