New information boards

The Itchen Navigation Preservation Trust has produced some information boards explaining the international importance of the River Itchen and the salmon that use it.
One is on the path near Woodmill and one will be installed at Mansbridge soon.

Chessel Bay
Local Nature Reserve
Quayside Rd
Saturday 17th October 2026 - 10am-2pm

Chessel Bay should be an excellent habitat for nature, but is often
strewn with rubbish - much of which is plastic - brought by the tides.
This is not only unsightly but potentially dangerous for wildlife.
To help reduce local pollution here - community litter-picks are a really
important part of the overall efforts.

If you would like to come and help with our
‘Autumnal Tidy-Up’ at Chessel Bay, it would greatly improve the habitat for the wildlife which depends on the Nature Reserve.
So, we hope to see you there.
Help to ‘turn the tide’ on plastic pollution at Chessel Bay!
Chessel Bay is situated at the end of Quayside Rd, S018 1DP

Lots happening at the Trifest: music, food, stalls. Don't forget to visit the Friends of Riverside Park stall. We have some plants for sale, you can also fill in a survey about the park, and become a member.

TRIFEST tomorrow Saturday afternoon, at Riverside Park, by Bitterne Park Triangle.
Music, Food, B**r tent, Local traders stalls, etc...
This year there is also a proper stage, a silent disco and toilets on the field!
Please note that the dog show will not take place, due to the high temperature.

The Friends of Riverside Park stall at the St Denys Festival today.

The Bat Walk was a great success last night with between 35-40 people attending. We saw and heard significant numbers of Common Pipistrelles, Soprano Pipistrelles, Nocturnes, and Daubenton's bats (the ones that fly centimetres above the water catching insects with their back legs.

The Bat Conservation Trust have asked us to help publicise a wildlife survey that anyone can get involved in in their own time. Details attached
