In 2021, Hampton Trust was awarded the Trauma-Informed Bronze Quality Mark by One Small Thing. The mark is recognition that trauma-informed practice is embedded not just in what we deliver, but in how we operate as an organisation.
Trauma-informed practice means understanding that the people we work with - whether that's people causing harm or those experiencing abuse - often carry histories of significant harm themselves. It means creating conditions where people feel safe enough to reflect, to engage, and ultimately to change.

Hampton Trust's Emma Hazan is taking part in our Choose Your 30! campaign and has set herself the challenge to learn 30 new things this year!

"I want to challenge myself to learn 30 new things this year. I've learned so much in my 10 years with Hampton Trust, and continue to learn every day; learn new skills, learn new ways of thinking about things, learn about the people I work with both clients and staff, and learn about myself. My challenge will be to take time and reflect on what I'm learning, because it can get so busy, reflecting and taking stock of learning doesn't always happen."

You can follow along with Emma's updates on her JustGiving page!

And if you'd like to support us and the work we are doing, there is still plenty of time to join in. You can find all the details on our website.

Changes in routine, alcohol consumption, heightened emotions and financial pressures (including gambling) can all be contributing factors.

This is one of Hampton Trust's very first newspaper headlines, published in the Southern Daily Echo in May 1996, just weeks after we were founded.
The story reported that probation chiefs were working to win charitable status for a new Hampshire trust, with backing already secured from Hampshire police and Social Services. The focus was on children at risk of offending - young people who, without intervention, might spend a lifetime in the criminal justice system.
30 years later, we're still making the same core argument: early, targeted intervention is more effective than letting harmful behaviour become entrenched.

If you're someone who worries about how you react when emotions run high at home — during matches or any other time — you're not alone, and there is support available.

Domestic abuse reports rise by over 25% during major football tournaments, regardless of the outcome. Changes in routine, alcohol consumption, heightened emotions and financial pressures (including gambling) can all be contributing factors.

Today, Hampton Trust turns 30!

In 1996, a small group of people in Hampshire had a belief that felt radical at the time: that to truly tackle domestic abuse, you had to engage and change the behaviour of those causing it, not just respond after the harm was done.

Three decades on, that belief underpins some of the most effective domestic abuse intervention work in England and Wales. In the last year alone, we supported more than 3,000 people and trained over 1,000 frontline professionals across the country.

But this anniversary isn't just a moment to look back. Domestic abuse affects 1 in 4 people in England and Wales at some point in their lifetime. On average, one woman is still being killed every week by a current or former partner.

So today, alongside marking 30 years, we're launching Choose YOUR 30!, our anniversary fundraising and awareness campaign.

We're inviting people, families, workplaces and community groups across Hampshire to take on a personal challenge connected to the number 30. Run 30km, perform 30 acts of community kindness, take 30 cold-water swims – whatever works as a challenge for you.

Every challenge taken on, every pound raised, goes directly towards work that rebuilds lives and creates safer communities.

We're so proud of our ISVA team on the Isle of Wight, who recently received the police Isle of Wight Area Commander’s Certificate of Congratulations for their outstanding dedication to victim care, ensuring four survivors were supported throughout a complex case and able to give evidence safely and confidently.

The combined efforts of Judi King, Shannice Harris, Mickayla Mulholland, and Deborah Gearing alongside the police resulted in an 18-year conviction in April 2025 for Keith Matthews from Wootton Bridge on eight counts of non-recent sexual offences against three children in Ryde and East Cowes between 1994 and 2012.

ISVA Service Manager Deborah Gearing said: “The team worked tirelessly to ensure that every survivor felt supported, believed, and empowered at each stage of the criminal justice process. Their focus was always on the needs of the survivors, helping them to build the resilience and confidence required to remain engaged with proceedings and to have their voices heard.

“I could not be prouder of the team and the difference we continue to make in the lives of survivors every day. This award is truly deserved and is a testament to our skill, empathy, and determination.”

Anyone working with families - be it doctors and nurses, social workers, or teachers - will encounter families affected by domestic abuse. Yet many don't know how to respond. How do you broach the subject safely? How can you ensure your actions don't make the situation worse for the victim? What if your suspicions are unfounded?
That’s where our training makes a difference. We equip professionals to:
✔️ Spot the early warning signs (often hidden)
✔️ Safeguard children and vulnerable adults effectively
✔️ Understand coercive control in family dynamics
✔️ Intervene with confidence

Would you know what to do?

Since 2011, Hampton Trust has worked with many clients who have experienced sexual violence and abuse, providing support and guidance that is specifically tailored to each client’s needs.

Experiencing sexual violence and abuse is a traumatic experience, and survivors often feel isolated and overwhelmed, not knowing what to do next.
Our team of Independent Sexual Violence Advisers (ISVAs) work with children and young people as well as adults. We are an inclusive service offering support to anyone who wishes to access our service and who has experienced sexual abuse, irrespective of whether that be recently, a long time ago, or through domestic sexual abuse.
