SUSU Green Forum

SUSU Green Forum Environment and Ethics, Make a Difference! Welcome to the new Environmental and Ethics Green Forum! They can be contacted directly at [email protected].

This is going to be the new space where people can come to find out all they need to know about the Environmental and Ethics goings on in Southampton Student Union. The plan is for this space to be a place where YOU can:
• Find out about any upcoming events planned at the Union
• Contact the E&E team to ask them any questions about SUSU environmental and ethics policy
• Suggest ideas that you thi

nk could make SUSU a more environmental and ethical Union
• Post any local or international campaigns that you think E&E should be supporting
• Create and organize any events/campaigns that involve Environment and Ethics
• Post details of events organized by already running societies like Green Action and Student Switch Off

Your EandE team this year are: Josh Davies (JD) the elected Environmental and Ethics Officer at SUSU for the 2011/2012 academic year. His helpers are Tom Coulter the Environmental Coordinator and George Crone the Ethical Coordinator. There will be many E&E events throughout the year, these will include:
• Thursday 29th September – Environment and Ethics Day during Freshers week, the first EandE Thursday will have lots of fun stall’s and prizes to be won on campus.
• Middle of November –An Ethical Shopping Week, hopefully with deals on ethical products in the SUSU shops. That will help promote fair trade products at the Student Union and educate the student population about their ethical and environmental benefits of certain products.
• In February/ March – The waste audit for the whole university returns and also for the first time running is an energy audit of the whole university around this time as well.
• April/May- Host a whole week dedicated to environmental and ethical awareness with whole bunch of fun events such as Enviro Rock and a SUSU sleepout that will help raise awareness and money for charity
• June- The end of year “Recycling on your doorstep” week.
• PLUS HOPEFULLY MANY MORE EVENTS! The team will also be campaigning over the next year to increase the proportion of ethical products at sale in SUSU outlets, a yet to be announced renewable energy campaign for SUSU and pushing for EandE officers in every halls. There is also going to be the introduction of E&E Thursdays, whereby the Student Union recognises that Thursday is a day dedicated to environment and ethics (similar to how Wednesday afternoons are associated with sport at University’s). The main idea is for every Thursday there to be something at Uni where students can get involved and learn about Environmental and Ethical Issues. None of this can be done without the support and help of the students at Southampton, we want this to be a grass roots campaign with the EandE team pushing for the changes that you as members of the student body want. This going to be an exciting year and great opportunity to get involved and to make a real difference to how environmental and ethical the SUSU is run. We will soon be announcing how to become an official EandE rep so watch this space. For the mean time enjoy the new Green Forum and make any suggestions you want to improve the great SUSU.
