SUP Theatre Company Welcome to SUP Theatre Company. Keep up to date with productions & events! New members are always welcome! Why not join us? When and where do we meet?

Next production: The Unfriend at MAST Mayflower Studios 11th-14th November We put on major productions at the MAST Mayflower Theatre and Hanger Farm Arts Centre, as well as one-act play evenings, studio, and children’s outdoor productions. In addition, we regularly participate in local drama festivals. As well as our theatrical productions we plan social events including theatre trips, play readings and quiz nights as well as offering members the chance to attend workshops to learn backstage skills. We are a small and very friendly society, with a real team spirit and are always looking to welcome new members. Whether you would like to act, direct, stage manage, make costumes, find props or simply join us for play readings, we would love to hear from you. We welcome the experienced and also those with no or limited experience but are keen to learn. You will receive all the support and encouragement you need. As a member you will receive our monthly newsletter as well as be eligible to participate in any of our productions or events. To join the society please complete the membership-form and a member of the society will be in contact to welcome you. Our rehearsals take place on the University’s main campus in Southampton. For a major production we rehearse twice a week (usually on a Tuesday and Thursday evenings) with a few Sunday rehearsals in the weeks immediately prior to a show. Rehearsals for smaller productions and festivals take place as times agreed between director and cast. Social events tend to take place on a Friday or Saturday.

Introducing... Gavin!!! As The Neighbour. A character so boring he doesn't even have a name. He is funny though, although he wouldn't understand why.
Gavin, who I'm sure is a jolly lovely neighbour, has been in more SUP plays than The Neighbour asks for a minute of our time, which is often!

Procure yourself a ticket here 🎟https://tinyurl.com/4t82rm9f and The Neighbour will bore you to tears and give you a good chuckle at the same time - just don't ask him to explain it again 😖

🛳 When Peter and Debbie befriend the ‘delightfully eccentric’ Elsa during a cruise, they think they’ve made a charming new acquaintance. But when Elsa announces that she’ll be visiting them in England, their holiday friendship becomes alarmingly real 😨 As misunderstandings multiply and panic sets in, the couple are trapped between what they want to say and what social convention allows them to say 😬

Packed with sparkling dialogue and brilliantly observed characters, The Unfriend is a fast-moving comedy that asks the question: just how far will you go to avoid causing offence? As the situation spirals out of control, every attempt to do the right thing only makes matters worse.

🎭 With lines like this one I really don't know how anybody could resist such a play as Stephen Moffat's The Unfriend, a razor-sharp comedy about good manners, bad decisions, and the dangers of being too polite.

"Look. The toilet is edgy 🚽 the policeman's stools are perfectly healthy 👮‍♂️ and the sandwiches are not poisoned 🥪 Everybody clear?"

If you'd like to join us for a perfectly healthy sandwich from 11th til 14th November, click here and grab yourself some tickets 🎟https://tinyurl.com/4t82rm9f. Everybody clear?

AGM 2026 Award Winners! 🏆

It was AGM time again a couple of weeks ago, and as always it was an opportunity to celebrate some of our member's standout achievements. On the night we were delighted to hand out the following awards:

Paul Cresser - Onstage Award
This summer Paul gave us a hilarious and flamboyant performance as lead character Babbs in Charley's Aunt at Furzey Gardens. Comedic chaos ensues as Babbs becomes the centrepiece of a scheme to dress him up as a woman and pass him off as Charley's rich old aunt. Despite the many laughs Paul gave us, the modern adaptation of the theatre classic also called for quieter, more sincere moments as it explored themes of gender and self-discovery. All of which Paul delivered with pathos. Well done Paul, we'll remember this one for a very long time! 💃

Anna Hussey - Offstage Award
Anna took SUP for a rare outing in the horror genre at the Totton Festival of Drama this year. She Directed and set-designed and SUP original adaptation of The Monkey's Paw, a twisted tale of being careful what you wish for. In addition, Anna has also been a constant presence behind the scenes of our other shows, providing production support with tricky special effects, such as fake blood for Charley's nosebleed in Charley's Aunt. Fantastic job, Anna! 🎉

Jo Jukes - Eileen Stannard Award
This year the Eileen Stannard Award was proudly given to Jo Jukes, who has been one of our most active and dedicated members this year. She took on her first onstage role as Edith in last November's Pygmalion, a production she also provided light and sound support for. She continued to provide valuable light and sound support for multiple shows at the Totton Festival. Then took on her first leading role as Amy in Charley's Aunt! And to top it all off, she has also been a consistent presence within the SUP Committee and our social events throughout the year. Well done, Jo! 🥳

SUP already has some exciting performances lined up for this year, with Stephen Moffatt's comedy, The Unfriend, already in rehearsals for November. Watch this space for news!

🏝️What would you do if your new cruise pal turned out to be... a murderer? And she just invited herself to stay?!

🛳 Join Debbie, Peter and Elsa Jean Krakowski for a hilarious and satirical look at middle-class England's disastrous instinct always to appear nice.

ABOUT THE UNFRIEND (3F, 4M)

While on holiday, Peter and Debbie befriend Elsa, a larger-than-life widow from Denver, USA. They promise to stay in touch – because nobody ever really follows through on that sort of thing, do they?

But when Elsa announces she's coming to stay, they do a little online research and discover a terrifying truth. Suddenly, deadly danger is heading for London... and they're left wondering how to protect everyone they love without seeming terribly impolite.

A sharp, hilarious comedy about good manners, social awkwardness, and the lengths we'll go to avoid making a scene.

We hope to see lots of familiar and new faces at the reading next week!

I was going to say, it's books down for Charley's Aunt! 🥳 However we've actually been books down for a week or so, not that I want to blow our own trumpets but ya know 🎺 So we're just honing the magic now.
Pop along to this glorious farce, and we know SUP do farcey exaggerated and absurd comedy with frantic physical humour and ridiculousness extremely well 🧐
