424 (City of Southampton) Squadron Air Cadets

Welcome to the Page of 424 Squadron ATC, part of the Royal Air Force Air Cadets. We are a thriving Squadron of cadets and volunteer staff undertaking activities such as flying and gliding, music, BTEC qualifications, first aid, adventure training, fieldcraft training, sport, UK and Overseas camps, the Duke of Edinburgh Award and much

more. We take on new cadets aged between 12 (in Year 8) and 17 years, and cadets are able to remain part of the Air Cadets until their 20th birthday. We will give you a tour of the Squadron and an introduction to the Air Cadets, giving you an opportunity to see if it's the organisation for you... and we imagine it will be! We are also always looking for adult staff volunteers and civilian committee members. Please email [email protected] if you are interested in helping us out in such a role. Venture Adventure! Last Tuesday, 424 squadron bid farewell to Corporal Prokopiuk who has been part of the squadron since 2022. He will be missed but we wish him the best for the future and say thank you for everything he has done for 424.

We also celebrated the birthdays of sergeant Hoque, sergeant Hoque and corporal Hoque, as well as CI Boulter. To celebrate the occasion, the NCOs ran a fun night and served cake to the cadets 🎂

Last weekend, 424 squadron hosted two training days for our Recruit Training intake, where the RT cadets learnt the basics of leadership, expedition planning and radios, which now takes them one step closer to becoming 1st class cadets.

Recently, Sgt Hoque and Cpl Upham attended a camp in the Mendips where they completed many adventurous training activities including hiking, climbing and caving!

Camps like this are a great opportunity for cadets to push themselves out of their comfort zones and have a excellent time. In addition to the day activities, the cadets worked as teams to cater for the camp, providing many personal development opportunities.

Thank you to all the staff who facilitated this camp!

On Thursday our cadets had a feildcraft lesson!

Initially they were taught what kit they needed, where things should be and how their bags and webbing would be packed!

Then they learned about concealment and got to play hide and seek in the tree line!

Thank you so much to Cpl Bradley from 1216 Eastleigh Squadron Air Training Corps who came down to teach our cadets! They all had a great time!

VE Day: 80 years!

Last Thursday was the anniversary of VE Day. It was 80 years on so we decided to celebrate it by a design your own cupcake competition!
The groups had to come up with a design and try to make it!

Well done to the winning group! Plus well done to the staff for their great efforts!
