Ok. Such a mild autumn here. From the blackthorn bush we picked 2kg of sloe berries. Dusted them in a 1kg of sugar after freezing 🥶 so they leaked juice. Now the first fermentation begins. Late season here but should be ready for Christmas.

Sloe berries are in abundance. Last year's crop was terrible due to the weather. Let's make some sloe gin for Christmas.

Gorse can be seen in all kinds of habitats, from heaths and coastal grasslands to towns and gardens. It generally flowers from January to June (although it may flower sporadically throughout the year). In the UK we have 3 types. Common Gorse, Western gorse and dwarf gorse. Common gorse is a large shrub and a member of the pea family.
It provides shelter and food for many insects and birds, such as Dartford warblers, stonechats and yellowhammers.

Do not eat the seeds, but you can collect the petals and soak them in hot water for a soothing drink with a coconut flavour.
