DAIS CIC Disability Advice Independence Support (DAIS). I am Sonya Collins and I am here to help with Disabil What Are Personal Health
Budgets? What Can I Use It For?

We are now closed for Christmas We will re-open on the 4th January 2022 However, if you need any support urgently please contact me.. Introduction
Some NHS patients in England are being given greater choice and
control over their NHS continuing healthcare needs. If you have been given this leaflet by a health professional or Personal Health Budgets advisor then you are probably eligible to take

control of your NHS healthcare. A Personal Health Budget (PHB) is a way in which you are able to have choice and control over your own healthcare and support. It is an amount of money that is given by the NHS to enable you to buy in your own services and care. Your healthcare will be managed by YOU & your NHS support/health team. At the centre of the PHB is your support plan. This helps you to
decide your health goals, working together with your healthcare team. You will be told how much money you are entitled to, but you decide on the best way to spend the money. Some people may already be receiving a Personal Budget (Direct Payment) from Social Services. PHB works in a very similar way. What Does This mean For Me? If you choose to have a PHB you will be given 3 different choices of how you manage your budget:

The Notional Budget -
The NHS tells you the amount of money you will receive for your care. You tell them how you want to spend it and they will arrange the care and support for you. Real Budget -
This is held by a 3rd party, like a
voluntary organisation or care agency. They will look after the money, arrange your care and support you to decide how to spend your funding. Direct Payments-
If you already have a Direct Payment
from Social Services the transition over to NHS would not affect your care services. A Direct Payment enables you to have control over your NHS healthcare. You then choose how the funds are spent. Whichever Personal Health Budget method you choose it must be agreed between your NHS healthcare team and yourself. Pain relief; relaxation; massage or maybe aromatherapy. Getting out and about; travel expenses. Funding leisure activities or maybe buying equipment for hobbies that motivate you. One to one support that would pay for a travel companion to go places with you. What Can’t I Use It For? Treatments such as medicine that the NHS would not normally pay for due to them not being cost effective. Anything illegal
Gambling
Debt repayment
To***co
Alcohol

The Next Steps

If you decide you would like to
receive a Personal Health Budget or just need more information please contact. You will be supported to fill out any forms and assessments. Friends or family can support you if you prefer, or a mixture of both. The information that is gathered will enable your healthcare team to
calculate how much money is
available for YOUR budget. Once your PHB is agreed I will work with you closely to organise your
support, or you could do this yourself. This is all about
YOUR CHOICE and CONTROL
to enable you to have your own
Personal Health Budget
to give you Freedom and
Independence

News out this week highlights what many in our community already know all too well: the 'disability price tag' is increasing at an alarming rate in the UK. From energy costs for essential medical equipment to the rising price of accessible transport, disabled households are being hit the hardest.

While some support exists, many feel the system isn't keeping pace. It's time for a larger conversation about systemic change and targeted support that truly works.

β€‹πŸ’¬ What do you think is the single most important policy change needed in the UK right now to address this? Let's start the discussion below and make our voices heard. πŸ‘‡

The recent budget has announced taxes on advanced payments and a decrease in mileage allowances. We believe this is unfair to the most vulnerable in society and could affect their independence.
