Where tradition meets discovery, and every journey begins with a single step. What is Freemasonry ?

Freemasonry is one of the world's oldest, secular fraternal societies. Its members develop moral and spiritual values by a series of ritual dramas, which follow ancient forms and use stonemason's tools and practices as symbolic and allegorical guides. Its members believe that these values represent a way of enabling Freemasons to make a better contribution to the ethics and welfare of the communit

y. Freemasonry, therefore, offers intellectual and social challenges. It brings together and creates lasting friendships among those who might otherwise have remained apart. Its key focus is charity, which enables it to care for its own as well as the wider community. Freemasonry demands a respect for the laws of any country in which its members live and work. All Freemasons are expected to have a religious belief, but Freemasonry does not seek to replace a Mason’s religion or provide a substitute for it. It expects each member to follow his own faith. It concerns itself with a man’s relationship with his fellow man and not in a man’s relationship with his God. The discussion of politics is also forbidden at Lodge meetings. Freemasonry is not closed since all members are free to acknowledge their membership and, indeed, are encouraged to do so. Its constitutions, rules and ritual are in the public domain and its aims and principles are available for all to understand. English Freemasonry dates back to the 17th century. The first Grand Lodge in the world was formed in London in 1717. In 1813 the union of the two Grand Lodges of England, existing at that time, formed the United Grand Lodge of England (UGLE). The current Grand Master of the United Grand Lodge of England is His Royal Highness, the Duke of Kent

🍻 The Wi******er Mile - Completed! 🍻

This weekend, a group of daring and courageous chaps from St. Denys Lodge No. 7383 took on the legendary Wi******er Mile - ten pubs, one drink in each!

Needless to say, there may be a few sore heads being nursed this morning, but the day was rounded off perfectly with a fantastic curry and plenty of laughter.

A special mention must go to our Worshipful Master, Josh Mitchell, who organised the whole event brilliantly and kept the spirits high throughout the evening.

Events like this remind us that whilst we labour well in the Lodge, we also greatly enjoy each other's company outside of it. Freemasonry is about friendship, support and creating memories together.

We're hoping this becomes a regular St. Denys tradition and, if it looks like something you'd enjoy, we'd always be delighted to welcome visitors and guests along in the future.

And if you're not yet a Freemason but have ever been curious about joining, these photos are a glimpse of who we are - top chaps who enjoy each other's company and are always happy to welcome new faces.

💙 Happy Father's Day 💙

Today, we send our warmest wishes to all fathers, grandfathers, stepfathers, and father figures.

We hope you have the opportunity to spend time with your father, your children, or those you hold dear. For those whose fathers, sons, daughters, or loved ones are no longer with us, may their memories bring comfort and remind us of the lasting impact they have had on our lives.

From all of us at St. Denys Lodge No. 7383, we wish you a day filled with love, cherished memories, and the company of those who matter most.

Happy Father's Day.

In Loving Memory of Worshipful Brother Ian Bagg PPJGD (Hants & IoW)

It is with deep sadness that the Brethren of St. Denys Lodge No. 7383 announce the passing of Worshipful Brother Ian Bagg, PPJGD (Hants & IoW), who, following a period of illness, has now passed to the Grand Lodge Above.

Ian was a Past Master of St. Denys Lodge and a much-loved and respected Brother whose warmth, kindness and ever-present smile left a lasting impression on all who had the privilege of knowing him.

To many, he was more than a Brother, he was a mentor, a source of wisdom and encouragement, and a true friend.

As Almoner, Ian showed great care and compassion for the welfare of others. Even when ill health meant he had to relinquish the office, he remained very much in the thoughts of the Lodge and continued to receive visits and support from the Brethren he cared for so deeply.

Freemasonry is built upon friendship, and Ian embodied that spirit perfectly. He had a wonderful sense of humour and was known for the little things that made him uniquely him. One fond memory shared by the Brethren was Ian's love of mustard, so much so that he would often bring his own jar to festive boards, creating the kind of stories and laughter that become treasured memories.

Although Ian has laid down the working tools of this earthly life, the example he set, the guidance he gave, and the smiles he brought to others will long remain in the hearts of those who knew him.
Rest peacefully, Worshipful Brother Ian. Your memory will continue to inspire us, and you will be greatly missed by your Brethren and friends at St. Denys Lodge No. 7383.

We hope all our members, friends, and visitors are enjoying a well-earned summer recess.

Whilst many lodges have paused for the summer, we know there are still plenty of busy Masons across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight finding the occasional meeting to attend and keeping the Masonic calendar ticking over.

Before long, diaries will begin filling up once again, regalia will be dusted off, and we'll all be looking forward to returning to the lodge room and renewing those friendships that make Freemasonry so special.
We're pleased to remind everyone that our next meeting will be held on:

📅 Tuesday 22nd September 2026

As always, visiting brethren can be assured of a warm St. Denys welcome. If you are thinking of joining us, we'd be delighted to hear from you. Feel free to get in touch so we can begin making the necessary arrangements.

Until then, enjoy the remainder of the summer, stay safe, and we look forward to seeing familiar faces, and hopefully a few new ones, when we return in September.

Fraternal greetings from all at St. Denys Lodge No. 7383.

Wow, what a turnout for Football Lodge 9921!

It’s amazing what can happen when a large group of good people come together with a shared purpose.

This highlights one of the very best aspects of Freemasonry, the opportunity to visit other lodges, make new friends, strengthen old friendships, and support one another. When brethren work together and help build each other's lodges, rather than focusing solely on their own, everybody benefits.

Congratulations to Football Lodge on what looks to have been a fantastic occasion. ⚽️🤝📐

WOW! 🤩 What. A. Night. 👏🏼

Over 200 brethren from all over the UK came together to celebrate 10 years of Football Lodge 9921 🎂

A number of Brethren from St. Denys Lodge No. 7383 are looking forward to attending the Installation Meeting of The Lodge of Fraternal Union on 8th July, where Bro Morgan Tye will be installed as Worshipful Master.
We're particularly pleased to be there to support Morgan as he takes the Chair of King Solomon for the first time, and to support our own Dave Bowen, who will be handing over the reins after a successful year in the Chair.
It promises to be a fantastic evening of Freemasonry, friendship, and celebration.
If any Brethren would like to attend and join us in supporting Morgan on this special occasion, booking details can be found below:

In Southampton, Freemasonry has long been linked with the famous ‘40 Steps’. For generations, brethren have climbed the historic steps beside the old town walls on their journey into the Masonic Hall in Albion Place, a fitting symbol of the steady upward path every Mason seeks to take.
Follow us for more unnecessary masonic nonsense ☺️

Worshipful Brother Brian Durrant

a very happy birthday from all of us at the Lodge of St. Denys No. 7383.

Brian is one of those remarkable brethren who quietly gives so much to Freemasonry. Not only to our own Lodge, where his support, friendship and presence are always appreciated, but also across many other lodges and throughout the Province of Hampshire & Isle of Wight. His dedication to the Craft is admired by many, and we know countless brethren would join us in raising a glass in his honour today.

Here’s to you, Brian.

To many more happy years, good health, laughter, friendship, and continued service to the Craft.
And of course…

here’s to you winning as many raffle prizes as humanly possible.
BOOM! 🍾🥂
