We are looking forward to this event next Tuesday 17th March 12.30 to 14.30, when author Hazel Sheffield will be at October Books to talk about her book Frontierlands, a book about communities transforming forgotten spaces. Come along and be inspired 😃

🏘️ Can communities rebuild the places they live?
In Frontierlands, Hazel Sheffield travels across the UK meeting the people quietly transforming forgotten spaces — from empty buildings and derelict land to back gardens and community hubs.

These are places often labelled 'left behind'. But instead of waiting for top-down regeneration, local groups are creating their own futures:🌱 community-led housing🔄 circular economies and low-waste projects🏠 creative uses for empty buildings🤝 spaces that tackle isolation and bring neighbours together

Frontierlands asks big questions:What if regeneration started from the ground up?

Lucy Easthope calls it “remarkable, exquisitely researched and acutely observed.”

As Paul Hawken describes it, the book is “a compelling account of how abandoned buildings become seedbeds of renewal, creativity, and social justice.”

These values and ideas resonate with October Books in many ways, which is why we are hosting their book launch this March. Join freelance writer Hazel Sheffield on a night of discussion, and maybe we can all find inspiration to revitalise the 'left behind' spaces in Southampton.
