The UK Government has announced new schemes for refugees to come to the UK.

We know many people are hoping these schemes could help them or their family members. Unfortunately, some people may use these announcements to trick people or take their money.

Please remember:

❌Nobody can guarantee you a place on the UK Resettlement Scheme.

❌ Do not trust people on Facebook, TikTok or WhatsApp who claim they can arrange resettlement for a fee.

❌ Do not send money, passport copies or personal information to unknown people.

✅ Check information on official UK Government websites.

✅ If you need immigration advice, speak to a properly regulated adviser or solicitor.

If somebody promises you a UK visa, job or resettlement place in exchange for money, be very careful.

The UK Government has announced new ways for some refugees living outside the UK to come to the UK safely.

There are four different schemes. Places will be very limited and not everyone will be eligible.

Please do not pay anyone who claims they can arrange resettlement or sponsorship through these schemes.

We believe English for speakers of other languages (ESOL) gives learners so much more than language skills.

Knowing the language means being able communicate with your GP about your health and your child’s teacher about how they’re getting on at school. It means being able to play an active role in community life and find a job.

Recent research by the University of Southampton investigated the wider benefits of our ESOL classes for learners. It showed our learners became significantly more confident using English in everyday situations including:

✔️looking for work (69%)
✔️participating in the community (68%)
✔️using public transport (59%)
✔️communicating with a healthcare professional (50%)

At the end of our ESOL programme, learners reported feeling more connected to the wider community (92%), more independent (91%) and more comfortable living in the UK (94%).

Today, we’re celebrating our friends at Southampton and Wi******er Visitors Group (SWVG )! 🌟

SWVG is a volunteer-led charity that provides invaluable befriending and support 👥. We work together at weekly drop-ins in Southampton and Wi******er and they also offer English learning opportunities.

Their amazing projects include cooking sessions 🍲, an art group 🎨, and outdoor activities 🌳. They also campaign for a fairer and more efficient asylum system 📣.

A huge thank you to everyone at SWVG for your dedication, compassion and commitment to supporting people seeking safety 🙏💙. We’re so grateful to have you as brilliant partners!
