Meet the woman who helped pioneer The Salvation Army in Jamaica.

Born in Jamaica in 1823, Agnes Foster later settled in England, where she married a Yorkshire farmer and had four children. A woman of incredible faith and an evangelist by calling, she became a Salvation Army officer for a short time in 1883 where she was posted to South Shields III Corps.

But Agnes’ pioneering story would eventually take her back to where it began. As a widow, she returned to Jamaica and helped pioneer The Salvation Army’s mission there, before International Headquarters sent officers to formalise the work.

This Black History Month, remember the name: Agnes Foster.

What a joy it was to once again be invited to lead three Harvest Festival Assemblies today at Wordsworth Primary & Nursery School.
Alongside some great singing of Harvest songs, we shared the story of the young boy who gave his small lunch of loaves and fish to Jesus, who blessed his offering and turned it into a miraculous feeding of over five thousand hungry people. A great reminder that God can take and use even our small offerings to do great things.
A huge thankyou to parents, children and staff for the wonderful donation of food items which will be used to help local families in need this Christmas.

A prayer for those working to combat modern slavery 🙏

Father God, we pray for the thousands of people trapped in modern slavery in towns and cities across the UK.

We pray for those working to support victims and survivors. Empower them with strength, compassion and the resources they need to help people rebuild their lives.

It takes all of us working together to combat modern slavery. Show us how we can play our part in finding those who need help and bringing them the support they deserve.

Thank you that you hear our prayers and care deeply for justice. Bring us together as we pray for freedom, hope and a future where all people can flourish.

Amen.

Throughout October, we are marking Baby Loss Awareness month with a dedicated prayer table for anyone who has been affected in this way. As this is something we as a Church family, and so many in our community have experienced, it is very close to our hearts. 💔
Please feel free to add a butterfly to one of our trees, in memory of a little one. Should you need someone to talk to or pray with you, then do get in touch. 🦋🙏🦋🙏
