Body and mind are interconnected - when we are overstressed it can affect both in a number of ways. Our bodies and minds become inflamed ๐ฅ. Too much of it is bad for our health. Plus it doesn't feel good, we are less active or productive as a result ๐. Where stress is not recognised and managed, it's certainly a pathway towards burnout. While stress itself is not a mental health condition, many episodes of mental ill health (such as anxiety and depression) have occurred following exposure to high levels of stress or trauma. Therefore, managing stress is key to good mental wellbeing ๐
What things help to alleviate stress? Any activity which promotes feelings of calm or being soothed. This can be as simple as a walk outdoors ๐ฟ. Rhythmic breathing where you breathe from your lower chest also helps to trigger the vagus nerve, the parasympathetic nervous system that 'turns the alarms off'. A Hug or helpful chat can help soothe as well, where we are able to process or discharge some feelings of stress. Laughter is a massive stress reliever - so find your funny ๐. We'd love to hear what makes you laugh! Sharing is caring ๐
