On Tuesday 16th June, we as UHS Theatres Staff are playing Cricket against our rivals at QAH Portsmouth for ancient bragging rights and to raise as much money as we can for Dr Leo’s incredible UKROPS charity. We would LOVE as many of you as possible to come and support us please!

Details:

Where? Burridge Cricket Club, Botley Road, Burridge, SO31 1BS

When? Tuesday 16th June, gates open 17:30 – match 18:00 – 21:00, followed by two guest speakers

Entertainment? You bet! If you’ve ever wanted to see dropped catches, misfields, stumpings and consultants running for you for once then this is the event for you!

Food? We have the amazing Original Fry Up material Burger Van coming from Wi******er – check them out here - https://www.originalfryupmaterial.co.uk/. Their food really is amazing and well worth the trip alone!

Drink? The club are opening the bar for us for soft and more sociable drinks

Anything else? We have a special guest surprise speaker to present some trophies at the end, a fully signed Hampshire cricket shirt to raffle with the names of some of international cricket’s current and future biggest names and then Leo is going to bring us up to date with his incredible work.

Why are we doing this? We would love to raise as much money as possible to support Leo’s charity and the frankly unbelievable work him and his team have undertaken since the project began. If you would like to support us with this goal then you can do so via this link https://www.leosrow.com/ OR the QR code on below or the code on the poster. There is no obligation to donate. Happy ODP day to all our amazing colleagues across our theatre department!

What is an ODP?

Operating department practitioners (ODPs) work in three key areas; anaesthetics, surgery and recovery. In anaesthetics the role involves assisting the anaesthetic doctor during general and local anaesthetics.

We are very lucky in our department to have some of the most amazing ODP colleagues delivering first class care to each and every patient.

👸 A huge well done to Amy, one of our theatre HCAs for braving the big chop to raise money for the little princess trust 👸

"I have wanted to donate my hair for many years now while working in paediatric theatres. The beginning of this year I moved from within paediatric theatres out to paediatric reception where I get to meet and greet all our patients coming through for surgery. Since I started working here getting to hear everyone's stories and backgrounds it gave me the push even more so to donate my hair. It costs £700 to make one wig for one child so together if anyone would like to donate we can at least make one child smile 😊 xx"

MAJOR INCIDENT DECLARED FOLLOWING FIRE AT UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL SOUTHAMPTON

A major incident has been declared at University Hospital Southampton this morning following a fire.

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service were called to Southampton General Hospital at 5.30am and the fire has now been contained.

Nobody has been injured as a result of the fire and patients in all affected areas have been evacuated to safe areas of the hospital.

Roads surrounding the hospital have been closed by emergency services.

Visitors are asked to stay away and all planned outpatient appointments are cancelled today.

Parking is being made available on site for staff who are coming into work.

Our Emergency Department is currently diverting patients away unless your condition is deemed life or limb threatening.

We are asking anyone requiring medical attention to use other services in the community including the Urgent Treatment Centre at RSH or Lymington.

We will be keeping our website and our social media channels updated.

Recently we have been celebrating our incredible We Are UHS Champions 🎉

These amazing individuals and teams have gone above and beyond for our patients over the past year 💙

Today we’re shining the spotlight on our trauma theatres team, winners of the chief executive’s award – clinical 🏆

In May, this team carried out a high-stakes emergency procedure for a critically injured polytrauma patient.

It was a complex case that demanded flawless coordination between surgeons, anaesthetists and nurses, as well as teams from interventional radiology, radiology and blood transfusion.

Their resilience, skill and unwavering commitment were truly exceptional – working under intense pressure and adapting swiftly to changing needs.

Huge congratulations to the trauma theatres team – you are true champions 👏
