Burridge and Park Gate WI Donates to Two Saints, ‘Hope House’

This year, WIs nationwide voted for a resolution urging all levels of government to take practical steps to reduce women’s homelessness, support women at risk, and improve temporary accommodation. Members were encouraged to support local homelessness charities and campaign for every woman to have a safe place to live.

Burridge and Park Gate WI members donated generously to Two Saints ‘Hope House’, which provides single homeless people with a safe place to sleep, hot showers, meals, and practical support, including help for those facing alcohol, drug, or mental health difficulties.

We hope to keep donating needed items throughout the coming year.

Our monthly WI meeting will be held on Tuesday, 14 July, from 7pm at the Royal British Legion, Brook Lane, Park Gate. Our meetings offer lively conversation, engaging speakers and fellowship.
Coffee mornings are one of the many activities enjoyed by Burridge and Park Gate WI members. This gathering was especially memorable, as we celebrated our longest-standing member’s birthday on a beautiful summer’s day. We also offer Evening and Daytime Book Clubs, Kurling, Craft Club, W**e and Dine, Theatre Evenings, Day Trips, Social Evenings and our Walkie-Talkie group.

BURRIDGE AND PARK GATE WI is the group for you.

There are so many misconceptions about the WI and so many are just not true. We are a wonderful group of ladies, we laugh and have fun.

We meet every 2nd Tuesday of the month at The Royal British Legion, Brook Lane 6.45pm.
We have wonderful speakers, demostrations and social events at our meetings.
As well as our monthly meetings we have a w**e and dine group, daytime and evening book club, theatre club, craft group, walkie talkies and kurling. As well as going on day trips.
If you think you may want to try us out, our membership is open and we will be ready to welcome you. Please let us know if you would like to try us out.

Our Burridge and Park Gate WI took a wonderful 'Tour of the New Forest Day Trip' in April. We began at a beautiful thatched pub on the edge of the forest, created from three 12th century cottages, this is possibly the oldest pub in the new Forest.

Our guide Clare took us to see the Rufus Stone commemorating the controversial death of flame haired William II and we saw some picture postcard villages along the way. We stopped at a gorgeous, thatched village where at the 13th century church, guarded by an ancient yew, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, the creator of Sherlock Holmes, lies buried. We went back to the pub for a main course and dessert . The lunch was delicious and the staff were amazing.

We stopped for a visit to Lyndhurst the “Capital” of the Forest on our way back. Clare was a brilliant guide and we learned so much more about the New Forest and it's history.

2025 what a fun-filled year you have been!

As we. Look back on 2025 Burridge and Park Gate WI have been busier than ever. We started the year with 50 of us at Fareham College at our annual Christmas meal.
We have enjoyed our evenings eating wonderful food each month, supporting local pubs and restaurants in the area.

Chrissie, our theatre coordinator secured us wonderful seats at some amazing shows. This year we have seen ballets, Kinky Booots, Mama Mia, Tina Turner and Only Fools and Horses to name but a few.

Our craft group, who meet twice a month have learnt ne skills, made decorations for our Christmas tree displayed at The Brickwork and they came together and made posies for every member to have at our birthday party.

Our walking group have enjoyed some lovely walks some finishing with lunch and drinks. We are so very lucky to live in a beautiful area.

We have enjoyed Kurling, coffee mornings, daytime book club, evening book club, skittles evening and day trips.

This year saw us hold our 2nd fashion show in aid of Rowans Hospice and our main fundraiser. The evening was a huge succeese enabling us to support a wonderful charity.

We ended a year on a high celebrating Turing 70 years old and what a treat we had. A fabulous supper and entertainment from Judy Theabold.

Each month our speaker secitary Jenny, works her magic in securing the most amazing speakers for our monthly meetings.
2026 is shaping up to be even bigger than last year.

None of this would be possible without the enthusiasm, friendship, and support of our wonderful members, committee, and volunteers. Thank you to everyone who gives their time, energy, and ideas so generously — whether organising events, attending activities, or simply being there for one another. It is this sense of community that makes Burridge and Park Gate WI such a special group to be part of. Here’s to another fantastic year together.

🥂🍰Burridge and Park Gate WI Celebrates 70th Anniversary🥂🍰

Last month marked a momentous occasion: our 70th anniversary! Burridge and Park Gate WI has thrived for 70 wonderful years. We are especially fortunate to have June, daughter of one of our founders and mother of our WI, as a member.
Chrissie, Jill, and Jenny had the pleasure of spending time with June, reminiscing about the past seven decades and sharing those memories with our members.
Our birthday party was a resounding success, complete with a fantastic spread for everyone to enjoy.
We were delighted by Judy Theobald's engaging talk, titled 'Anniversaries.'
Our talented craft group created individual flower posies for each of our members. Thank you!
Our birthday cake was truly special, capturing the essence of our WI. Special thanks to Clair's Cakes for creating such a beautiful cake.
