Southampton has a rich history.

Good, bad, beautiful - and ugly.

At today’s Black History Month flag-raising at the Civic Centre, ’s Director, Lou Taylor, shared one story tucked away in the city’s archives:

That of a local plantation-owning family whose register of enslaved people is held beneath the city.

It’s just one chapter in a much bigger story - history - of Southampton.

We’re making new ones.

Say hello to this incredible group!👋🏾

They’ll each be sharing their community’s story on the big screen for “Honouring Our Communities”, our 4th Black History Month black stories screening.

But first, they’re completing our community storyteller training to go out, film and edit it! 🎥

For some, it’s their first time learning with us.

For others, they’ve learned with us before.

For all, it’ll be their first time sharing their mobile video on a big screen and with an audience!

Come and watch what they create and see their communities’ stories on the big screen.
