The Waterside Food Project

Food waste composting.
The waterside food project helps 100's of people access free or very low cost food each month. But there is always some left over and it all gets composted!
To get the food ready to be composted it has to come out of the plastic, mashed, a bit of bakoshi bran added and then stored for two weeks.
then it goes into our Ridan compostor.
Then we use the compost to grow more food.

For a very long time we have been trying to bring the crafts and refill section of our work to life.
Thanks to our volunteers helping out we have at last got it ready to open.

It will be a very gentle start, and the refill goods will be a while yet, but tomorrow is the day we can finally open our little section of recycled, reclaimed, and reused goods.

Open the same times as the pantry.

Members are welcome to come and have a look at what we have.
If your not a member yet we ask if you would be so kind as to join to make sure we keep this building and pantry as a resource for the community.

Bananas!
As a food rescue project we get lots and lots of bananas. The record number of boxes in one day is 15!
Here is one of the things we do with them.
And all the skins go to make banana peel powder, which we sell to fund our work.

Running Lucie's Place cost's a lot of money, there is rent and utility bills to pay, and the purchase of some of the food etc.

It's why if your just shopping the middle ailse we encourge if you can, to pop a few pennies in the pig.

But we also do fundraising events, and last weekend saw us return to Worthy Earth Festival for the weekend.

The video shows how our stall looked, and I am pleased to say it was really successful. We only sell things made by community members, with materials that are upcycled, reclaimed, or natural materials with over £600 going in to the funds.
We ran peg loom workshops each day, and made lots of new connections which we hope will bring good things to our community.

Next weekend is the Waterside Clothes Swaps September swap.
The swaps are a great way to change your wardrobe without adding any damage to earth and only a little bit to your purse!

All money rasied goes to support running Lucie's Place and the pantry in Blackfield, providing a resourse for our community.
