People's Pride Southampton

People's Pride Southampton We are an award-winning group of LGBT+ people and allies who provide events, support & training.
(1)

People's Pride Southampton is a charity that was registered on October 2020, we started as a community group in 2019 we have been providing support, outreach stalls, pride events, such as Party In The Park, Trans Pride Southampton and many more over the past few years. We now offer all year round, support and outreach pride merch stalls, inclusive and accessible events, community and charity equip

ment hire, training, social events and much more besides. We are a small collective of LGBTQ+ people and their allies trying to change things for the better, trying to create a community with true cohesion. Not only among the LGBTQ+ community but through the community as a whole!. We are here to buck the trend of Pride organisations that seem to have a primary focus on money, controlling diversity, corporate sponsorship etc. We actively work with and integrate disabled, neurodiverse, bame community members, and Trans community members because all too often these sectors of society are not thought about, be it in the mainstream or the LGBT+ community. The way we see things is that through education, support, and much more we can slowly create a community where LGBTQ+ people and non LGBTQ+ people can live side by side in harmony and fully integrate into society. You can find out more about events and how to donate here: https://linktr.ee/peoplespride or if you would like to find out about how you can get involved in anyway, please get in touch by messaging the page or messaging us.

Thank you.

Hiii all πŸ³οΈβ€πŸŒˆπŸ³οΈβ€βš§οΈ

Today we've decided to talk about genderq***r people.

Genderq***r is often used to describe people whose gender identity exists outside conventional gender norms or who challenge the traditional gender binary. Some people use genderq***r as a specific identity, while others see it as a broader umbrella that can include identities such as genderfluid, agender, bigender, and others.

Genderq***r people use a wide variety of pronouns, and this varies from person to person. Some may use she/her, he/him, they/them, multiple sets of pronouns, or other pronouns entirely. This is why asking and respecting people's pronouns is important.

There are many challenges faced by genderq***r people. They often experience social pressure to conform to traditional ideas of gender, a lack of representation, and discrimination or bullying both online and in person. Sadly, some of these experiences can also come from within the LGBTQ+ community.

Genderq***r people are a valued part of our community, and today we'd like to raise awareness, show support, and celebrate those who identify as genderq***r πŸ’œπŸ€πŸ’š

Hii folks πŸ³οΈβ€πŸŒˆπŸ³οΈβ€βš§οΈ

Today we have decided to talk about genderfluid people.

Genderfluid refers to a gender identity that is not fixed and can shift over time. A genderfluid person may move between male, female, neutral, or other gender identities. These changes can happen occasionally, daily, or over longer periods of time, affecting both their internal sense of gender and how they choose to express themselves.

Gender fluidity can apply to how a person feels internally (their gender identity) or how they present themselves to the world through clothing, hair, makeup, and other forms of expression. These shifts do not always happen at the same time.

Many genderfluid people may change their pronouns to match how they currently identify. They might use he/him at one point, she/her at another, then they/them or even neopronouns. This is one reason why asking and respecting people's pronouns is important. However, this does not apply to all genderfluid people. Some may consistently use they/them, while others may use multiple pronoun sets at the same time.

Like many people within the LGBTQ+ community, genderfluid individuals can face a variety of challenges. They are often told to "pick a gender," experience misgendering, and face a lack of visibility and understanding. Unfortunately, these attitudes can sometimes come from within the LGBTQ+ community as well.

Genderfluid people are a valid and valued part of our community. Whether you're out, questioning, not ready to come out yet, or still figuring things out, please know that you are welcome, respected, and accepted πŸ©·πŸ€πŸ’œπŸ–€πŸ’™

Heyyyyy all πŸ³οΈβ€πŸŒˆπŸ³οΈβ€βš§οΈ

Yesterday's post was about non-binary people, so over the next few days we'll be exploring some of the identities that can fall under the non-binary umbrella. Today's topic is agender.

Agender refers to a person who does not have a gender identity. People who identify as agender often see themselves as genderless, gender-neutral, or simply as human beings rather than fitting into the traditional categories of man or woman.

Agender is often considered part of the broader non-binary umbrella. Some agender people may also identify as transgender, while others prefer not to use either label and simply identify as being without gender.

Agender people use a wide variety of pronouns. Some use traditional pronouns such as she/her or he/him, others use gender-neutral pronouns such as they/them, some use neopronouns, and some may prefer not to use pronouns at all.
Agender people can face many challenges. They often experience social erasure, pressure to conform to the gender binary, a lack of representation, and may be told that their identity isn't valid. Sadly, these attitudes can sometimes come from within the LGBTQ+ community as well.

Today we honour agender people. We see you, we appreciate you, and you are valid. Just like everyone else in our community, agender individuals are a valued and important part of it πŸ–€πŸ©ΆπŸ€πŸ’šπŸ€πŸ©ΆπŸ–€

Hiiiiii folks πŸ³οΈβ€πŸŒˆπŸ³οΈβ€βš§οΈ

Continuing the gender theme we've been exploring over the last few days, today we'd like to talk about non-binary (enby) identities.

Non-binary is a gender identity used to describe someone whose internal sense of gender falls outside the traditional binary of strictly "man" or "woman." Non-binary individuals may identify as a combination of genders, as having no gender, or as existing entirely outside these categories.

All non-binary people are valid, whether they are androgynous, masculine-leaning, feminine-leaning, or a mix of all three. There is no right or wrong way to be non-binary.

While many non-binary individuals use they/them pronouns, others may use he/him, she/her, he/they, she/they, or another combination entirely. No matter which pronouns someone uses, they deserve to have them respected.

Non-binary people face many challenges. They are often told they are "too masculine" or "too feminine" to be non-binary, that their identity is "just a phase," or that they must be either male or female. Sadly, these attitudes can sometimes come from within the LGBTQ+ community as well.

Today we'd like to celebrate all non-binary people, whether they're out, questioning, or not ready to come out yet. However they choose to express themselves, they are a valued and important part of our community πŸ’›πŸ€πŸ’œπŸ–€

Heyyy friends πŸ³οΈβ€πŸŒˆπŸ³οΈβ€βš§οΈ

Since we talked about trans men yesterday, today we'd like to talk about trans women.

Trans women are individuals who were assigned male at birth but have a female gender identity. Simply put, they are women who happen to be transgender.

Being transgender doesn't define how someone presents themselves. Some trans women enjoy being very feminine, while others may have a more tomboyish style. No matter how they choose to express themselves, their identity is valid.

Trans women face many challenges, including discrimination, public harassment, online bullying, and erasure, sometimes even within the LGBTQ+ community. Many have their identities questioned or are judged based on whether they fit society's expectations of femininity.

Every trans experience is valid, whether someone is openly living as themselves, not yet comfortable presenting due to discrimination or safety concerns, or not out yet at all.

Today, we'd like to recognise and celebrate trans women and the contributions they make to our community. Trans women are a valued and important part of the LGBTQ+ community, and they deserve to be respected for who they are 🩷🩡🀍🩡🩷

Heyyy all πŸ³οΈβ€πŸŒˆπŸ³οΈβ€βš§οΈ

The topic we've chosen for today is transgender (trans) men.

Trans men are individuals who were assigned female at birth but have a male gender identity. Simply put, they are men who happen to be transgender.

Being transgender doesn't define how someone presents themselves. Some trans men are very masculine, while others may be more feminine or identify as femboys. No matter how they choose to express themselves, their identity is valid.

Trans men face many challenges, including public harassment, online bullying, discrimination, and erasure, sometimes even within the LGBTQ+ community. Many are told they are not "masculine enough" or have their identities questioned simply for being themselves.

Every trans experience is valid, whether someone is openly living as themselves, not yet comfortable presenting due to discrimination or safety concerns, or not out yet at all.
Trans men are a valued and important part of our community, and today we'd like to show our appreciation for them 🩷🩡🀍🩡🩷

Hello lovely people πŸ³οΈβ€πŸŒˆπŸ³οΈβ€βš§οΈ

Today we'd like to explore inters*x identities.

Inters*x refers to people born with biological s*x characteristics, such as chromosomes, hormones, or reproductive anatomy, that do not fit typical definitions of male or female bodies.
While being inters*x relates to a person's physical biology rather than who they are attracted to or their internal gender identity, inters*x people are often included in the broader LGBTQ+ community for several reasons.

Inters*x people frequently face societal stigma, discrimination, medical pressure, and assumptions based on traditional ideas about s*x and gender. Many of these challenges overlap with the experiences faced by other members of the LGBTQ+ community.

Many inters*x individuals also identify as le***an, gay, bis*xual, transgender, q***r, or another LGBTQ+ identity, which is why the acronym is sometimes expanded to LGBTQI+.

Today, we recognise and celebrate inters*x people and their important place within our diverse community πŸ’›πŸ’œπŸ’›

Hiiiii everyone πŸ³οΈβ€πŸŒˆπŸ³οΈβ€βš§οΈ

Today we'd like to talk about pronouns.

Pronouns are the words we use to refer to people when we're not using their name, such as she/her, he/him, they/them, and many others.
While pronouns are often associated with gender, you cannot always know someone's pronouns just by looking at them. That's why it's important to respect the pronouns people share with you.

Using a person's correct pronouns is a simple way to show respect and acknowledge their identity. If you make a mistake, don't panic, simply apologise, correct yourself, and move on.
Some people use she/her, he/him, or they/them. Others may use multiple sets of pronouns, such as she/they or he/they, while some people may use less common pronouns that feel right for them.

At the end of the day, pronouns are about respecting how people wish to be referred to. A small effort can make a big difference in helping someone feel seen, valued, and included.
Everyone deserves to have their identity respected β€οΈπŸ§‘πŸ’›πŸ’šπŸ’™πŸ’œ
