Last Friday, PACE lost one of our longest serving athletes, Jagjit Chuk.
Jagjit joined PACE in 2005, he was a talented athlete and sports fanatic. His drive to ensure PACE athletes were able to compete in boccia, led to the formation of PACE Boccia in 2008. His leadership skills, technical ability on court, and determination to compete, saw Jagjit become our first ever captain at PACE boccia, as well as the captain of our powerchair football team. Jagjit oversaw PACE's first major victory as a club, in a teams and pairs competition in 2013, as well as ensuring that PACE consistently topped the London league each season after it's formation, regularly earning qualification into the National League Finals.
Individually, Jagjit's medal cabinet included a range of medals at regional level, with appearances at national level. In 2011, he was recognised by Ealing Council, being awarded a "Certificate of Exceptional Achievement", and was also selected as part of the England Talent Pathway. Jagjit was studious as well as sporty, and completed his FA Level 1 in football coaching qualification, as well as our in-house Team Leader training. This helped to cement him as a key athlete, coach, and team leader, and he volunteered extensively with PACE in the local community, supporting new athletes to participate in boccia, until he stopped playing prior to the Covid pandemic. After stepping down from boccia, Jagjit willingly donated his equipment to PACE, demonstrating his desire to make the sport accessible for more athletes.
Despite the challenges that he faced, Jagjit always set high standards at PACE, and was involved in building the foundations for PACE Boccia to be the club that it is today. His contributions to PACE are etched in our history.
Our thoughts are with Jagjit's family, friends, and team mates during this time. Please do reach out if you'd like to talk about it. If you have any photos or memories of Jagjit, feel free them in the comments below.
Rest in Peace, Jagjit Singh Chuk, our captain. You will be forever remembered.
