Would you like to volunteer at one of our Macmillan Support Centres in South Tyneside or Sunderland?

These centres are crying out for help for those who are looking for an opportunity to get involved with the local community who can spare a few hours a week.

It's very rewarding and provides a great sense of satisfaction knowing you've helped someone and their families through one of the most difficult times in their lives.

There's so much more to cancer than Palliative Care. Many more people are living with cancer and many still don't realise all the emotional support and financial help they may be entitled to. Staff and volunteers at the centre can help point you in the right direction to seek help you need outside of the medical care you're receiving.

Many people ask how they can get some support after being given a cancer diagnosis. Some people are apparently told by their GP that Macmillan are only there for people who are dying or need Palliative Care.

This is simply not true. Macmillan are there to support people living with cancer and their families with health, wellbeing, and information needs.

For those living and receiving treatment in South Tyneside and Sunderland we have 2 Macmillan Support Centres, 1 based in South Tyneside District Hospital (STDH) and 1 at Sunderland Royal Hospital (SRH).

We are here Monday to Friday 10am to 4pm, the numbers to call are as follows:

Our Macmillan centres are also promoting our latest information source, which is the Cancer Information Hub, available by scanning a QR code on your smart phone. The hub contains a lot of information including videos which provide a lot of useful information.

In addition to the hub our Macmillan centres have lots of other literature and contact numbers and charities they can put you in touch with to support you.

Macmillan also offer other help, including free benefit advice, counselling, complimentary therapies, and legal advice.
