The passion, kindness and community spirit of people that make the Borough such a special place has been recognised at the Awards 2026.

Held at The Customs House last night (Thursday 4 June), the annual awards shine a spotlight on the Borough's everyday heroes - celebrating those who go above and beyond to support others, strengthen communities and inspire pride in the place.

Beginners Employability starts Thursday 18th June
Advanced Employability + Media & Photography sessions begin this September

Each session is designed for ages 16+ and is funded through Direct Payments. If you don’t currently have Direct Payments, don't worry! We can guide you through the process and support you every step of the way 💙

📣 Free Music Taster Sessions for Adults

Interested in music, sound, electronic music or the technical side of the music industry?

Come and try a friendly, practical music taster session at Bird Song Studios in North Shields.

No experience is needed, and everyone is welcome. Our staff specialise in supporting neurodivergent adults, and the sessions are designed to be relaxed, supportive and beginner-friendly.

📅 Dates:
Wednesday 17 June
Wednesday 24 June

⏰ Time:
1pm to 3pm

You can come to one session or both.

What you can try:

🎵 Electronic Music and Synths
Explore synths, sounds, beats, loops and simple music-making technology. Experiment, be creative and make your own sounds in a relaxed space.

🎚️ Technical Skills in the Music Industry
Get an introduction to live sound and recorded sound. Learn how sound is set up, captured, mixed and played back behind the scenes at gigs, studios and music events.

These sessions are ideal for adults aged 18+ who:
✅ Are curious about music or sound
✅ Want to try something creative
✅ Prefer small groups and supportive tutors
✅ Are interested in music industry skills
✅ Have little or no previous experience

📍 Venue:
Bird Song Studios, North Shields

Places are limited so we can keep the groups small, friendly and welcoming.

We’re looking for a new Learning & Support Mentor to join our team 💙

This role is all about building confidence, independence and trust. Some days might involve cooking sessions, travelling with members, getting creative with music and media, gardening, helping someone work towards a goal they never thought they could achieve - or simply being a calm, supportive presence alongside them.

Our group members told us the kind of person they want supporting them:
Someone kind.
Someone patient.
Someone who listens properly.
Someone who understands that progress looks different for everyone.

If you have experience supporting neurodivergent young people and adults, a positive attitude, and genuinely care about helping people thrive, we’d really love to hear from you!
