Congratulations to Delphine Blenkinsop and John Caffery

The research John has been doing into the 6th Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers has uncovered a number of photographs of the soldiers who were members of the battalion.

Delphine took up the mantle to create portraits of some of the soldiers. She has successfully had two of them selected to be part of The Northumberland Open Exhibition 2026 being exhibited at Woodhorn Museum on show from 14th February to 10th May 2026.

So proud of this project. John Caffery has done some amazing research tracking down the soldiers. The artists have done a fantastic job bringing them to life. You can listen to recordings of the letters on our podcasts The lost letters of the 6th Battalion.look for Hive Storytellers where you listen to you podcasts.

If you’re passing Northumberland CVA, stop and look at our window, it’s worth it!

The artwork is inspired by a remarkable collection of letters sent in 1920 to Captain Bell of the 6th Battalion, Northumberland Fusiliers. The letters, written by Territorial soldiers and their families after the Great War, were later discovered at a car boot sale and passed to John Caffery, who helped bring their stories back to life with the Hive Storytellers through a series of podcasts.

To give these men a face as well as a voice, Ted Taylor’s Art Group, created the powerful portraits now on display. People doing their best for the people who did their best.

Pop by and take a moment to look.

We are so pleased to see these amazing portraits currently exhibiting at Ashington CVA, This display will only be there for a short while.

Delphine Blenkinsop of the Hive Storytellers wanted to try and draw attention to the men of the 6th Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers by drawing their portraits, with the view of making them and the podcasts into an exhibition, but there are too many for one person.

Ted Taylor's Art Group came to the rescue and produced these meaningful portraits.

People doing their best for the people who did their best.

We are looking at other opportunities to exhibit these portraits and will let you know when and where they can be seen. If you can help with somewhere for us to exhibit these, or want to know more please get in contact.

Our latest podcast is now available for you to listen to.
This is the final podcast in our series of the lost letters of 6th Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers.

This letter is unfortunately it was not signed and we have not been able to identify the writer. It tells the story of what happened to the 6th Battalion over 8 days in 1917.

The photograph was taken at Harton Cemetery South Shields. The poppy was created by The friends of Harton Cemetery. John Caffery who researched the lost letters created all the wonderful poppies.
