Saturday 28 February 15 bags of rubbish and a car seat!

A big thanks to everyone who joined CleanFerry’s first litter pick of the year on Saturday. Working alongside The Thirty Knots and the Convenor of QDCC Environmental Committee, we picked 15 bags of litter and a car seat from the Hawes Promenade and Longcraig Road/Wood. Many thanks to the local Edinburgh City Council Cleansing Team for uplifting the rubbish.

The reality is this area is unfortunately a major litter blackspot, and the result is the volunteers had to litter pick nappies, dog poo, and rotting food, all of which are serious health hazards, especially for children.

Our Plea: Most of us love the Ferry, but a small minority are damaging it. Please, keep the community clean and healthy, bin your litter!

If you see David and Keith litter picking, usually on a Tuesday morning gives us a toot of your own horn or if walking, stop and say hello. David enjoys meeting people and having a chat. NatWest volunteers litter picking South Queensferry
Thanks to NatWest staff for recently picking the Hopetoun Road beach. The volunteers had kindly chosen the Ferry to pick litter. Over two hours seven volunteers collected 13 black bags of rubbish, as well as a baker's tray, plastic bucket and boxes which was then uplifted by council workers. Thanks are also due to the Red and Blue crews operating out of Burgess Road. Hopetoun beaches are popular for picnics, enjoying your takeaways and walking dogs, if you are using this area please help keep the beach clean, take your litter home as there are few if any bins in this area .

19 bags of litter

Yesterday Tuesday, CleanFerry Volunteers were joined by Daniel and seven colleagues from Mars Wrigley to litter pick areas around South Queensferry. Starting from the Bo’ness Road under the Forth Road Bridge and ending at Longcraig Road, the Team picked the following areas and streets: Hopetoun Road, The Binks, The High Street, The Railway walk from Jacob’s Ladder to Scotmid, McIver’s Brae, The Hawes Promenade, and Hawes Brae. Nineteen labelled black bin bags were collected and left at various public bins for Council collection. The majority of litter related to food and drink, such as energy drinks, beer cans, pizza boxes and plastic bottles, as well as broken traffic cones and abandoned shopping trolleys. A lot of litter in the Ferry inevitably reflects its popularity as a tourist destination, but it would be good to hear ideas on how we can reduce litter in the town. Please add your comments below or email [email protected]

Finally a big thanks to everyone who helped yesterday and to The Burgess Road Council binmen for uplifting the bags.
