This is the official notice that the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Management Committee for the William Blake Memorial Hall (the Blake Hall) will take place on Mon 27th April 2026 at 6.30 pm. It will be held in the main hall on the first floor - a stairlift is available. South Petherton residents are warmly invited to attend the AGM which considers the report and accounts for the preceding year and plans for the following year. (Over-18s are eligible to attend and vote.)

The Blake Hall is for the use of the inhabitants of South Petherton and local neighbourhood. Our regular users include two art groups, a theatre group, the Brownies, dance groups, the Parish Council, the Photographic Society, two table tennis clubs, the WI, Yoga, Pilates and Meditation classes and a non-contact boxing group. The hall is also widely used for private hire, including for celebrations, fundraising events, workshops and meetings. The village’s Sports and Social Club occupies the ground floor.

All members of the current committee are required to resign at each AGM and they are eligible for immediate re-election. We can also have co-opted members and we welcome volunteers. We are keen to increase our “person-power” so, if you have time to spare and think you could help run and improve the Blake Hall as a community resource, please contact the Secretary for further details at [email protected]

A WARM WELCOME TO THE BLAKE HALL!

The William Blake Memorial Hall is a registered charity for the use of residents of South Petherton and local neighbourhood. The Hall offers a pleasant, light and airy venue in the village’s historic Market Square. It is available at a very reasonable cost for regular groups and one-off events eg celebrations and meetings.

Facilities
• Main Hall on the first floor - 10 x 10.5 metres. (Capacity for 200 seated closely, 85 seated at tables, 170 dancing, 102 dancing and seated at tables.)
• Stair Lift to Main Hall
• Stage – 7.5 x 3.3 metres
• Well equipped Kitchen - with an oven, hob, fridge, microwave and dishwasher
• Toilet Facilities including Disabled
• Amplified Public Address System
• Committee Room for meetings for up to twelve people (stair access)

Hire Charges (as of January 2026)
Main Hall including kitchen facilities - £14.00 per hour
Committee room - £6.00 per hour. Loan of tables outside of the Hall - £2.50 per table
Refundable deposit - £50.00
Reduced hire charges available for regular weekly and monthly users

BLAKE HALL - VACANCY FOR A HALL MANAGER
The management committee of the William Blake Memorial Hall is looking for a new hall manager. Do you have some spare time and a wish to contribute to village life?

We are seeking an individual to help look after the Blake Hall on a day to day, but ad hoc, basis. This would involve:
• being generally responsible for the upkeep of the Hall and its facilities
• arranging contractors as needed and overseeing building and fittings maintenance and decoration
• checking and arranging repairs to furniture, equipment and amenities
• oversight of utilities
• organising servicing of appliances
• helping to ensure that the hall meets statutory and legal requirements
• liaising with the cleaner, bookings manager, manager of the sports and social club, hall users and contractors where necessary; and
• reporting to the chairperson and committee.

A small honorarium of £100 per month is payable for this important role.

SECRETARY for South Petherton’s William Blake Memorial Hall Committee
Do you have some free time and an interest in becoming more involved in village life? Are you good at working with people? Do you have administrative skills?
The Management Committee of the William Blake Memorial Hall is looking for a new Secretary to join the Committee. As with all committee members, this is a voluntary role, and takes up an average of a couple of hours per week. Tasks would include:
• Organising committee meetings, preparing the agenda and papers, taking minutes;
• Updating committee policies;
• Maintaining committee records and ensuring compliance with Charity Commission requirements.
You would work in association with the Chair and Treasurer, and with the support of a friendly Management Committee.

SOCIAL MEDIA WIZ for South Petherton’s William Blake Memorial Hall Committee
Do you have some free time and an interest in becoming more involved in village life? Are you good at working with people? Do you have social media skills?
The Management Committee of the William Blake Memorial Hall is looking for a new Social Media Wiz to join our friendly team. This is a voluntary role, and only takes up less than a couple of hours per week. Tasks would include:
• Developing and keeping our website up to date;
• Developing and keeping our page up to date;
• Uploading news items and other relevant content on our social media;
• Sending news items and other relevant content to other social media and local media outlets.
You would work in association with the Chair and the Hall and Bookings Managers and with the support of a friendly Management Committee.
