🐾 Our kittens need your help! 🐾

We currently have quite a few kittens in our care, and we're running really low on both wet and dry kitten food. These hungry little bundles of cuteness are growing fast, and we're getting through food faster than ever! 🙈

If you're able to donate any kitten food, we would be incredibly grateful. 💕
Every pouch, tin, or bag makes a real difference and helps keep our tiny residents happy, healthy, and well-fed. ☺️

📍 Donation drop-offs are welcome at our centre every day between 11am and 2pm.

🛒 If it's easier, you can also support us by purchasing from our Amazon Wishlist.

Thank you so much for your continued kindness and support. We simply couldn't care for these little ones without our amazing community. ❤️🐱

Warning cuteness overload 🥰

Everyone please welcome Flora 🌸

This sweet frenchie is around 4 years old and is now looking for her forever family. 🐾

She is a bundle of happiness and once she knows you she is always looking for attention and cuddles. 💕
She can sometimes be cautious of new people so she may need a little of time and patience at the beginning so she can get to know you.

Flora is dog friendly and can therefore be rehomed with other dogs pending successful meet and greets.
She can also be rehomed with children over the age of 10.

If you think that Flora could be your perfect match please get in contact with us on 01430 423986 any day of the week between 11am-2pm ⭐️

☀️⚠️This week is set to be very hot and, although it’s great to finally have some summer weather, we all need to be extra vigilant with our pets and do everything we can to help them cope with the sudden rise in temperature.⚠️☀️

As most of you are probably aware, our beloved pets struggle to cope with high temperatures far more than we do.

They are unable to sweat effectively to cool themselves down, which makes them highly susceptible to potentially fatal heatstroke, and it’s our responsibility to help keep them safe.💕

There are many ways we can support our pets during a heatwave:

• Ensure they have access to fresh water at all times 💧
• Keep blinds and curtains closed to keep the house cool
• Use fans to improve airflow
• Provide cooling mats (if your pet is not a chewer!)
• Create as much shade as possible
• For animals kept outdoors, such as rabbits and guinea pigs, ensure their hutches are shaded from direct sunlight while still allowing good ventilation and airflow
• Use cooling jackets or bandanas where appropriate and only whilst supervised
• Provide paddling pools for dogs (only when supervised)
• Add ice cubes to water bowls 🧊
• Offer frozen treats
• Keep pets indoors where possible
• Only walk dogs early in the morning or late in the evening, and only if necessary

It is also important to recognise the signs of heatstroke, as it is a medical emergency that requires immediate veterinary attention. ‼️

Signs of heatstroke in dogs:
•Excessive, heavy panting
• Excessive drooling with thick saliva
• Restlessness
• Bright red or very pale gums and tongue
• Lethargy and weakness
• Wobbliness or unsteadiness
• Vomiting and diarrhoea
• Collapse or seizures

Signs of heatstroke in cats:
• Heavy, noisy breathing or open-mouth panting
• Restlessness and vocalising
• Excessive drooling
• Excessive grooming in an attempt to cool down
• Bright red or very pale gums and tongue
• Vomiting and diarrhoea
• Confusion and wobbliness
• Collapse or seizures

Signs of heatstroke in rabbits and guinea pigs:
• Rapid, shallow breathing
• Open-mouth breathing
• Hot, red ears (rabbits)
• Lethargy
• Drooling or excessive salivation
• Wetness around the nose (rabbits)
• Wetness around the chin (guinea pigs)
• Restlessness
• Wobbliness and confusion
• Collapse or seizures

If you notice any of these symptoms, contact your vet immediately. Heatstroke can progress very quickly, and there is often little time to spare.

We hope you and your pets stay safe this week. We'd love to see how you're helping your pets keep cool, so please share your photos and ideas in the comments! 🐾

As you can see, resident Ralph likes to have a paddle! ☺️💙

We have been contacted by a student who is doing a degree in Canine Behaviour and Training. 🐶🐾
For her dissertation, she is looking at the effects of pain medication (before and after), on certain physical and social behaviours in dogs diagnosed with Osteoarthritis. If your dog suffers with osteoarthritis, would you mind taking the time to complete the following questionnaire for her in order to help her research for her dissertation (link attached). Thank you. 😊

😃 We have some incredibly exciting news to share with you all! 😃

We are delighted to announce the launch of our new mobile veterinary service! 🚑 😁

As a rescue, we are always looking for ways to improve the lives of animals in need and address the ongoing challenges facing animal welfare in our community. 🩵

Over recent years, we have been fortunate to have our own Veterinary Surgeon and Veterinary Nurse on site, providing care for our residents 🐶🐱 as well as offering discounted veterinary services to other rescues and members of the public whenever possible. However, we know that much more support is needed.

Many of you will have seen our discounted dog and cat neutering campaigns. Every time we offer these services, the response is overwhelming. We receive far more requests for help than we are currently able to accommodate, highlighting just how many pet owners are struggling to access affordable veterinary care. 😔

Our CEO, Holly, is always looking for innovative solutions, and once again she has turned a rescue dream into a reality for Hull Animal Welfare. 💙

By introducing a mobile veterinary service with affordable pricing, we hope to help tackle some of the issues we see every day in rescue. Access to essential veterinary care, including vaccinations, microchipping, health checks and neutering, can be difficult for many families, and we want to help change that. 😌

Our Veterinary Surgeon and Veterinary Nurse will be providing routine health checks, vaccinations, microchipping and neutering services at various locations across Hull and the East Riding. 🚑

We are absolutely thrilled that this vision has become a reality, and it would not have been possible without the incredible support of our community. We would like to extend a huge thank you to everyone who has supported Hull Animal Welfare and helped make this possible. ❤️

Together, we can make a real difference to animal welfare across our region, helping to reduce the number of unwanted and abandoned animals that find themselves in rescue centres and ensuring more pets receive the care they deserve. 💕

Thank you all for your continued support.
Stay tuned for further updates on this exciting new venture! 😃💙

Also we’d like to say big thank you to MW Graphics for doing the amazing graphics on our van free of charge! 🥰
