Think you need another qualification or more experience to move beyond medicine? You might not.

You already have skills that companies value. The key is knowing how to communicate them, position your experience and show employers what you bring to the table.

Sometimes, it’s not about learning more. It’s about recognising the value of what you already know.

Most doctors think their expertise stops paying the moment they step away from the ward.

It doesn’t.

In 2026 the market decided what doctors know is worth serious money. Health tech companies are selling for hundreds of millions. Investors want clinical minds in the room.

And most doctors haven’t noticed yet.

Swipe through the 6 things you need to know about Doctors in Industry 👉 the community, the three routes, why it’s a route gap and not an ambition gap, and how doctors like you are already moving.
You just have to own what you already know.

Wonderful to see everyone who came last week with our 3 guests Sheliza, Elsa and Faith

The conversation was incredible

Sheliza’s had a major founding team issue which means her agentic AI startup may close - as someone who’s already overcome major adversity starting as a scholarship student from Kenya (beating 1500 to get into medicine) she’s literally a superstar - having worked in leadership positions like Babylon, Voy and more

Faith explained how he helps doctors market to private practices and his entrepreneurial mindset gained from what he grew up with in Nigeria having moved over here to COVID

And Elsa shared how as a solo founder and scientist secured VC funding, said No to many incubators and got into Francis Crick Institute with her business - scaling an international team and now starting a metabolic health clinic

We talked about overcoming adversity

Thank you to everyone else who shared their incredible journeys too!

We are so lucky to have such talented inspirational people in our ecosystem!

Ten years ago I sat in a room of 100 doctors and was told, bluntly, that most of us wouldn’t make it.

What most people don’t know is I’d already been running Medic Footprints for two years by that point, quietly, worried people would see it as me pushing doctors away from the NHS.

I didn’t go looking for a certificate. I went looking for someone to tell me I wasn’t the problem, and for a room of people who’d stop pretending they had it figured out alone.

That’s the exact thing I tried to build into Doctors in Industry: not a one-off badge of honour, but a room that stays useful long after the “programme” part ends.

There are more ways to practise medicine than most doctors will ever be told about.

Different systems. Different structures for using the same training you already have.

I found this out by accident.

I moved to South Africa to work as a trauma surgeon, expecting the change of scenery to fix how I felt about medicine.

And it did. Just not how I thought.

The medicine itself? I loved it more than ever. Same skills, same stakes, same reason I trained in the first place.

What I’d actually been struggling with was never medicine. It was the system around it.

Once I separated those two things, everything opened up.

That’s the part that stays with me: how many doctors are convinced they need to leave clinical work entirely, when really they just need a different system to practise it in.

The opportunities are out there. Most of us just never hear about them.

Shifa spent 10 years as a GP

She then decided to move into longevity medicine, a space she knew almost nothing about. No roadmap, no contacts, no idea where to start.

So she joined Medic Footprints.

Through the program, she got introduced to people already working in longevity medicine. Real conversations, not cold applications.

A month later, one of those conversations turned into a co founder. Together they launched Club 100, the first doctor led community for longevity medicine.

Not long after, another introduction turned into an interview. That interview turned into a role as a longevity doctor at a clinic on Harley Street.

No job board did that. No perfect CV did that.

The right introductions did.

We put this question to a live room of doctors: what’s the real difference between the ones who make it into industry and the ones who stay stuck? Talent and seniority were the top guesses. Both wrong.

The actual answer is almost boringly simple.

If you already know your strengths and still can’t translate them into a role, that’s not a you problem. It’s a support problem, and it’s genuinely fixable.

👇 Comment “DII” and I’ll send you our free 6-step guide to help you build a non-clinical career.
