We have some really exciting news to share!

We’re over the moon to let everyone know that the Knowle & Dorridge and Solihull Memory Cafés have been shortlisted for the Solihull Community Builder Award 🎉

The cafés have grown so much over the past year and it's wonderful to see the difference they're making for people living with dementia and their families.

A huge thank you to our members, volunteers, guest speakers, and partner organisations who make the cafés such welcoming and supportive places each week. This wouldn't be possible without you.

We’re looking forward to representing our wonderful dementia community at the awards later this year 💙

Wow, what a morning we had at our charity tea dance! 💃

There wasn’t a face without a smile as people enjoyed music, dancing, tea and cake, as well as our usual natter!

We all had a ball learning some new moves with Lynne from Aura Dance Studios, who did a fantastic job as compere and line dance teacher, while Libbi and Eden wowed everyone with two brilliant dance performances that had the whole room watching in awe 🪩

It was also wonderful to welcome the Mayor of Solihull, Sardul Marwa MBE, and Mrs Satnam Marwa, the Mayoress, for their first community engagement alongside Dr Neil Shastri-Hurst MP, all of whom took time out to support our wonderful Memory Café. We even got to see both Sardul and Neil showing off a few moves on the dance floor! 🕺

A huge thank you as well to Tesco Knowle for kindly donating delicious cakes, cookies, and baked treats, and to Solihull Indoor Bowls Club for being such fantastic hosts and keeping the teas and coffees flowing throughout the morning ☕

🫶 We’re very lucky to have such a lovely community behind us. Thank you to everyone who came along and helped support Dementia UK and Alzheimer's Society. We’ll update with the final total very soon! 💷

🎨✨ Creating Together Through Art ✨🎨

This week at our Memory Café, members came together to create a beautiful group painting inspired by Seurat’s mosaic-style masterpieces. Each person added their own unique contribution, helping to build a wonderful shared piece of art. 🖌️

The use of colour and light sparked creativity, conversation, and enjoyment throughout the session. Art can be especially beneficial for those living with dementia, as it helps stimulate the senses, encourage self-expression, evoke memories, and create moments of calm and connection. 🌈💛

Another week of fabulous art, friendship, and creativity together.

Special Thanks to
The Arts Society Solihull for making this project possible🙏

The Art at the Heart CIC for the delivery of this fantastic project, the room is full of calm and creativity when you are with us 🙏

Why not show your support this by becoming a Dementia Friend 🩵

Alzheimer's Society Dementia Friend's initiative is about increasing people's understanding of dementia. A dementia friend is someone that learns more about dementia, how it can affect a person and the small ways they can make a difference in their community, helping those affected by dementia feel more included and better understood.

You can become a dementia friend by watching a short online video or by joining one of the many virtual sessions taking place during dementia action week

💙

Become a Dementia Friend. Learn more about what it is like to live with dementia and turn that understanding into action.
