Leads the Trustee Board - The Chair coordinates and leads trustee meetings, ensuring the board works effectively and focuses on the right priorities.

Supports Strong Decision-Making - They guide discussions, ensuring all voices are heard and decisions are well-informed and aligned with Scouting’s values.

Works Closely with Volunteer Leaders - The Chair partners with the Group, District, or County Lead Volunteer to ensure governance and operational leadership align.

Ensures Good Governance - They make sure the charity is run properly, following rules, policies, and legal responsibilities.

Keeps the Board Focused on the Future - The Chair helps set direction, supports long-term planning, and ensures the organisation remains sustainable and effective.

Lead the Scout Group Day-to-Day - They oversee the running of the Scout Group, making sure each section (Squirrels, Beavers, Cubs, Scouts) operates effectively.

Support Section Leaders and Teams - They provide guidance, encouragement, and practical support to the adult volunteers delivering activities each week.

Ensure Safe, Quality Scouting - They make sure safeguarding, safety, and programme standards are followed so young people have the best possible experience.

Manage Admin and Organisation - From coordinating meetings to supporting governance (e.g. trustees/exec), they help keep everything running smoothly behind the scenes.
