Delivers Fun, Safe Activities - They plan and run weekly sessions packed with adventure, skills, and fun for young people.

Supports Young People to Grow - They help young people build confidence, learn new skills, and develop as individuals.

Creates Inclusive, Welcoming Spaces - They make sure everyone feels included, respected, and able to take part in Scouting.

Keeps Everyone Safe - They follow safety and safeguarding practices to ensure a secure environment for all.

Gives Their Time to Make a Difference - They volunteer their time and energy to create life-changing experiences and lasting memories.

Spotlight 5 – Chair Person

What do they do in the background?

Leads the Trustee Board - The Chair coordinates and leads trustee meetings, ensuring the board works effectively and focuses on the right priorities.

Supports Strong Decision-Making - They guide discussions, ensuring all voices are heard and decisions are well-informed and aligned with Scouting’s values.

Works Closely with Volunteer Leaders - The Chair partners with the Group, District, or County Lead Volunteer to ensure governance and operational leadership align.

Ensures Good Governance - They make sure the charity is run properly, following rules, policies, and legal responsibilities.

Keeps the Board Focused on the Future - The Chair helps set direction, supports long-term planning, and ensures the organisation remains sustainable and effective.

Spotlight 4 – Trustees

Provide Governance and Oversight - Trustees ensure the Scout Group, District, or County is well run, accountable, and operating within its charitable purpose.

Manage Finances Responsibly - They oversee budgets, fundraising, and spending, making sure money is used wisely to support great Scouting.

Support and Challenge Leaders - Trustees work alongside volunteer leaders to offer guidance, ask questions, and help make informed decisions.

Ensure Safety and Compliance - They help make sure the organisation follows legal requirements, including safeguarding, insurance, and charity regulations.

Plan for the Future - Trustees help set long-term goals, maintain buildings/equipment, and ensure Scouting remains sustainable and accessible.

Spotlight 3 – Group Lead Volunteers

Lead the Scout Group Day-to-Day - They oversee the running of the Scout Group, making sure each section (Squirrels, Beavers, Cubs, Scouts) operates effectively.

Support Section Leaders and Teams - They provide guidance, encouragement, and practical support to the adult volunteers delivering activities each week.

Ensure Safe, Quality Scouting - They make sure safeguarding, safety, and programme standards are followed so young people have the best possible experience.

Manage Admin and Organisation - From coordinating meetings to supporting governance (e.g. trustees/exec), they help keep everything running smoothly behind the scenes.

Grow and Strengthen the Group - They recruit new volunteers, welcome young people, and look for ways to develop and expand Scouting locally.

Spotlight 2 – District Lead Volunteer – Alison (Cole), Peter (Blythe)
What keeps them so busy?

Lead Scouting Locally - They oversee Scouting across the district, making sure groups are supported and the programme runs smoothly day to day.

Support Group Leaders and Teams - They work closely with Group Lead Volunteers (GLVs) and section teams, offering guidance, problem-solving support, and encouragement.

Ensure Safe and Effective Delivery - They help maintain high standards in safety, safeguarding, and programme quality across all groups in the district.

Develop Volunteers and Teams - They help recruit, welcome, and grow volunteers, ensuring teams have the skills and confidence to deliver great Scouting.

Strengthen Local Growth and Community Presence - They identify opportunities to grow Scouting, open new sections, and build stronger links within local communities.

What do they do?

Support and Develop Volunteers - They lead, mentor, and empower teams of volunteers, helping them grow skills and deliver great experiences for young people.

Ensure Safe, High-Quality Scouting - They oversee safeguarding, safety, and compliance, making sure all activities are run responsibly and inclusively.

Build Partnerships and Community Links - They represent Scouts locally, building relationships with communities, partners, and stakeholders to strengthen opportunities.

Drive Growth and Inclusion - They work to expand Scouting, reaching more young people and ensuring the programme is accessible and welcoming to all.
