It's heating up quickly again ☀️ which is great for those of us who love the sunshine, but not so good for our wild friends. So if you don't already put out water for wildlife, it's the perfect time to start 💦🦔🦊🐦🐦‍⬛🦎

Don't forget to pop a few stones or pebbles in so that insects can safely drink too 🦋🐝

📩 "Subject: Thank You for the Workshop – It Was a Great Success!

I just wanted to drop you a quick email to say a huge thank you for coming in and running the workshop with us.

The class really enjoyed it and stayed focused for the whole hour, which is a real testament to how you engaged with them. You had an excellent manner with the pupils and they responded brilliantly to you — it was a great success overall.

Thanks again — we really appreciated having you, and I hope we can work together again in the future!"

We were thrilled to receive such lovely feedback after our visit to Highfield Ely Academy on Monday. We were made to feel so welcome and we thoroughly enjoyed the sessions too!

If you'd like to book a free talk for your school, afterschool club, community group or care home, please get in touch with Tara via [email protected].

Last month, we had a lovely visit to the Weatheralls Primary School in Soham and were delighted to hear that everyone enjoyed it too 😊

"Tara came to visit our year 1's during their forest school session. It was so interesting to learn about all the different baby animals and how to care for them. The children loved finding out how they move and where they live and Tara really bought the learning to life for them. It was great to find out more about all of Soham's ducks and what to do if we see ducklings in trouble. Our favourite baby animal name was gosling and we loved the fox cub camouflage fact, nature is very clever! "

Update - he's home 😊

Missing Cat - Soham, East Fen Common

Nemo got out on Tuesday night. He's an indoor cat (14yo) so unfamiliar with the area. He's a large, neutered, microchipped black moggy, and is normally very friendly and inquisitive. However, it's likely he's scared and hiding.

Please can you check your gardens, outbuildings, garages etc if you're nearby. He has a distinctive call (a long 'aaoow' like if you stub your toe or an 'oh-wow') and a high-pitched single note meow. Please can you report any sightings or sounds and I'll come straight away.

He's very much missed already and we're incredibly worried about his wellbeing in this heat. Thank you.

PS. Apologies this is not wildlife-related, but I know many of you are Soham-based animal lovers 🐾

For World Migratory Bird Day, we're sharing this video of one of our hand-reared swifts taking to the skies for the first time back in 2021!

Swifts are fascinating birds. They migrate to the UK in the spring and spend just a few months here raising their young before travelling back to Africa for the winter. When a swift first takes flight, they'll stay in the air for the first two to three years, feeding, sleeping and even mating in the air 😳 they'll only land when they rear their first babies.

A grounded swift won't be able to take off or feed itself. So any found in this situation need to get to an experienced rescue centre immediately. They're complex birds that need specialist care and nutrition to get them fit to make their long journey from the UK.

Hedgehogs can swim, but they need escape routes to avoid exhaustion or drowning if they fall in to ponds. So don't forget to add a ramp, sloping edge or shallow area so they and other wild animals can easily get out.
