Soham Neighbourhood Plan

Soham Neighbourhood Plan Soham and Barway's Neighbourhood Plan for all residents input and feedback. This is being supported by Soham Town Council.

A Neighbourhood Plan gives communities direct power to develop a vision for their neighbourhood and shape its future.

Soham Town Council is now regularly using the policies which are part of the Neighbourhood Plan when reviewing the planning applications which we receive. The various policies are very useful to remind us of all the aspects we need to consider when looking at plans for approval. It is also quite good that the District Council Planning Committee also makes reference to our Neighbourhood Plan too.

We are thrilled that the Referendum was positive and more than 50% of the people who voted were in favour of the Plan. It will be formally adopted by ECDC this week. It means that any developer submitting a plan to build in the |Neighbourhood Plan area will have to follow the policies in the plan when they submit a plan. It also means that the 25% of CIL money (Community Infrastructure Levy) paid by the developer will now come to Soham Town Council for community projects. Formerly we only received 15% of CIL money.

I am delighted to announce that the latest version of the Neighbourhood Plan has been approved by the examiner and passed to ECDC. They have decided to put it forward for Referendum. The date they have chosen is 10 October 2024.
Please put this date in your diary! We want lots of people to vote. Everyone on the electoral role within the NP area should get an electoral card (just like for the General election).
Please encourage everyone to vote if they can because we would like as many people as possible to express their views about the plan.
If the referendum is positive the plan will be adopted by ECDC and become part of planning law.

We were hoping that perhaps we might get the referendum on the same day as the General elction but unfortunately it seems we will have to wait another 3 months for that because the Plan has to be examined before referendum happens. So we have to wait......!

Soham and Barway Neighbourhood Plan has been approved by Town Council and it has now been submitted to East Cambs for consultation and examination. You still have a n opprtunity to comment. Please go to the Town Council webside www.soham-tc.gov.uk to view the plan and how to make comments.
Once the 6 week consultation has been completed East Cambs will organise a referendum which will allow all residents to vote on the Plan. Please make sure you make the effort to vote because if the vote is positve then the Neighbourhood Plan will be part of planning law for our area.
Town Council thanks all residents for their support and interest in this project.

Soham is a growing town of around 12,000 people, situated just off the A142 between Ely and Newmarket in the district of East Cambridgeshire.

If you haven't already made your comments about the Neighbourhood Plan, please go ahead and do it now. You only have until December 13 to make your comments count - don' let the opportunity slip away!!

23/10/2023

The QR code is working properly but the official date for the opening of the consultation is 1st November so this means that until that date you will not be able to access the response form until then.

Sorry for the confusion but the delivery of the leaflets to households happened sooner than expected. Please do not be put off sending in your comments after 1st November or come and see us at one of the 2 open events at the Pavilion.

Some are finding it hard to read the QR code. Here it is again for you to scan and help with information and feedback.

All households in Soham and Barway will shortly be getting a leaflet through their doors explaining about the public consultation for the Neighbourhood Plan.

Mainly we would like people where possible to respond by going online, with the kind permission of the Town Council via their website www.soham-tc.gov.uk but there will be a number of places around the town where you can view the paper documents and fill in a paper response to the consultation. These places are The Council Offices at the Pavilion, the Co-op, Jak Hibs Shop, The Library in Clay St and Millbrook House.

In addition we are holding two sessions at the Pavilion when you can come and view the plan and ask any questions you may have.

These events are on Thursday 2 November from 7pm to 9pm and on Saturday 4 November from 10am to 2pm.

The Consultation runs from 1 November to 13 December. We really do want to know what you think!

This plan is guiding the way in which Soham and Barway will develop in the next 10 years so it will affect all of us who live and work here.

Please give us your views!

We are still busy getting all the documents for the final draft of the plan together. Then there will be an opportunity for everyone to make a comment as there will be a 6 week consultation. This will be mainly on line but paper copies will be available too. We are hoping to start the consultation on 1 November to run until 13 December.
Because we know there will be questions we will be running 2 Q and A get togethers at the Pavilion --dates to be publicised nearer the time.
Please encourage everyone to put forward their comments and come and talk about the plan with us.
