Dalby Inferno Results Update

Firstly, we’d like to apologise to everyone who took part in this year’s Dalby Inferno and is eagerly awaiting their results.

Unfortunately, we’ve encountered an issue with the software used to process the race timings. The timing data itself has been retained, but the results cannot currently be exported as intended.

The team member who has the timing data stored on their laptop is currently away on holiday and will not return until the end of next week. Once back, they will manually process and input the results so that we can publish them as soon as possible.

We completely understand that many of you are keen to see how you performed, and we’re very sorry for the delay and any frustration this may cause.

We’re really disappointed ourselves, and we’re already looking into alternative timing systems for next year to help ensure this doesn’t happen again. If any of you have experience in this area, or know of a reliable system or contact who may be able to help, we’d love to hear from you – please drop us a message.

Thank you all for taking part and making it such a great day. We truly appreciate your patience and understanding, and we’ll provide a further update as soon as we have more information and publish the results at the earliest opportunity.

On her way out to assist at the Dalby Inferno event, SRMRT team member Sam spotted something unexpected at the roadside — a poorly injured tawny owl.

Without hesitation, she carefully secured the bird and placed it into a dog crate she had in the van to keep it safe and calm while she continued en route. From there, she contacted Whitby Wildlife Sanctuary, who quickly arranged for one of their volunteers to collect the owl later that afternoon.

It’s a great reminder that whether it’s people or wildlife, the right care at the right time makes all the difference. Thanks to Sam for stopping, and to Whitby Wildlife sanctuary for their swift response and continued work supporting local wildlife.

A huge congratulations to everyone who took part in Dalby Inferno yesterday! 🔥👏

Whether you completed 1 or 2 laps, pushed through the middle distances, or achieved the incredible feat of all 10 laps of the 5.5km course — every single participant should be proud of themselves. The determination, resilience and atmosphere throughout the day was fantastic to see.

Events like this are a real test both physically and mentally, and honestly getting to the start line is an achievement in itself, especially on a grey, rainy day like yesterday.

We hope everyone enjoyed the event, and isn’t feeling too achy today, and we’d love to see many of you back again next year! 🏃🏃‍♀️🌲

Well done to all involved, and particular congratulations to the fastest runners of lap 10.

⚠️ Please note: the attached video contains mild injury footage from Saturday’s incident in Bransdale.⚠️

On Saturday, the team was called to Bransdale to assist a lady who had suffered a leg injury while out enjoying the countryside.

Working alongside local residents and Yorkshire Ambulance Service, team members helped carry out the casualty so she could receive further treatment.

We were recently sent this video by the casualty, it shows just how easily things can go wrong and is a reminder that even a simple trip or walk can quickly become difficult when injuries happen in remote areas.

It was great to see the local community coming together to help when it was needed, and we’d like to thank the local residents who assisted on scene.

A big thank you to the casualty for sending us this video and allowing us to share part of her story.

It always means a lot to the team to hear from people after we get called to them, and we wish the this lady a speedy recovery. 🚑⛰️

ARE YOU READY TO TURN UP THE HEAT 🔥🔥🏃‍♀️‍➡️🏃‍♂️‍➡️ Its nearly INFERNO 2026 time !!!!!

SRMRT are really excited for this Saturday when it’s our annual Dalby Inferno, 10 laps of 5.5km in one of the great woodlands In the UK, Forestry England Dalby
The Dalby Inferno has been sold out for several months with 200 runners taking part but why not come along, join the atmosphere and support those running. You can enjoy a coffee from Espresso Van-Gogh or delicious pancakes from The Dutch pancake co, all local Yorkshire companies, all in the scenic Great Yorkshire Forest of Dalby.

All runners should now have received an email by the entrance system updating them with the exact details, but...... here is a little sneaky peek of what awaits and some of the freebies provided by local North Yorkshire companies Yorkshire Flapjack, delicious inferno honey from Beez Neez Apiary.

The weather is looking typically "Yorkshire" with a mixed forcast but...... ......some would say perfect for taming the INFERNO 🔥🔥

☀️ Staying Safe in the Heat: A Message from SRMRT

This week, our volunteers have been called out twice to assist walkers who became unwell due to the heat while out on the moors.

We want to be clear: this post is not about pointing fingers or placing blame. The moors can be incredibly unforgiving, and conditions can catch anyone out. Our aim is only to share some vital safety advice to help you stay safe and prevent anyone else from getting into difficulty as the weather warms up.

Even a relatively short walk can become incredibly demanding in high temperatures, especially on exposed terrain with little to no shade.

🥾 Essential Warm-Weather Walking Advice.

If you are planning to head out onto the North York Moors, please take a moment to run through this checklist:

💧 Hydration is key: Carry plenty of water—and then pack a bit more than you think you’ll need.
🧢 Cover up: Wear lightweight clothing, a hat, and plenty of sunscreen.
⏰ Time it right: Avoid walking during the hottest parts of the day (usually 11 AM to 3 PM) where possible.
🗺️ Know your limits: Plan routes appropriate for your fitness level, and let someone know your route and expected return time.
📱 Stay connected: Carry a fully charged mobile phone (and ideally a power bank).
🌡️ Check the forecast: Don't just check the general forecast—look at the specific conditions for the tops of the moors.

🛑 Know the signs: Do not ignore the early warning signs of heat exhaustion. If you or someone in your group experiences dizziness, nausea, headaches, muscle cramps, confusion, or excessive fatigue, stop, find shade, hydrate, and cool down immediately.

The North York Moors are a fantastic place to explore, and we want everyone to enjoy them. Please look after yourself, your walking companions, and keep an eye out for others on the hills.

🚨 In an Emergency:
If you find yourself in difficulty and require emergency assistance, call 999, ask for the Police, and then ask for Mountain Rescue.

Have you ever wanted to be part of Mountain Rescue, but not necessarily as an operational hill team member?

We’re looking for enthusiastic volunteers to join our Support Team — a vital group of people who help keep the team running both behind the scenes and during incidents.

Support Team volunteers may help with:

✅ Community & fundraising events
✅ Training nights and casualty role-play
✅ Welfare support during incidents
✅ Vehicle, equipment & base maintenance
✅ Outreach visits and public engagement

You don’t need previous rescue experience — just reliability, a positive attitude, and a willingness to get involved.

This role could suit people who:
• Want to support their local community
• Enjoy teamwork and practical tasks
• Have useful life skills or trades
• Want to volunteer flexibly around work or family life
• Are interested in learning more about Mountain Rescue

💚 Help support lifesaving work across the North York Moors

Please note: Support Team membership is a dedicated volunteer role within SRMRT and should not be viewed as a route into the operational team.

At Scarborough & Ryedale Mountain Rescue Team we often talk about physical emergencies — but mental health matters too.

This Mental Health Awareness Month, we want to remind everyone that it’s okay not to feel okay ❤️

The outdoors can be an incredible place to clear your head, slow things down and reconnect — whether that’s a walk on the moors, a bike ride through the forest, or simply getting outside for a brew with friends. But we also know that struggles aren’t always visible, and sometimes the hardest battles happen quietly.

As volunteers, teammates, friends and family members, we look out for each other on the hill and off it. A simple message, phone call or conversation can make a bigger difference than you realise.

We know wellbeing matters off the hill as much as on it, which is why SRMRT has team members trained in Mental Health First Aid.

If you’re struggling, please don’t suffer in silence. There are people ready to listen and help, including organisations such as Andys Man Club, Mind, Samaritans & Campaign Against Living Miserably.
And if you know someone who’s been a bit quieter lately — check in with them 💚

🐾 The response to Friday’s dog rescue on the North York Moors has been incredible — but we wanted to shine a light on the specialist cave rescue work that made the rescue possible.

After the dog fell around 6.5 metres into a narrow winding pit, it quickly became clear this was far beyond a standard rescue. The underground system was extremely tight, awkward and technical, requiring specialist confined-space rescue skills.

That’s where the cave rescue team from Upper Wharfedale Fell Rescue Association (UWFRA) came in.

Cave rescuer Lucy carefully squeezed through incredibly tight passages deep underground to reach the dog before safely bringing her back to the surface ❤️🐾

It was an outstanding joint effort involving UWFRA, North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service, North Yorkshire Police and our own team members — all working together for one successful outcome.

Incidents like this are a great reminder that rescue rarely happens because of one team alone. It takes different organisations, different specialisms, and people willing to go to extraordinary lengths when it matters most.

We’re hugely grateful to everyone involved.

We’ll also be sharing donations generated from this post with the cave rescue team from Upper Wharfedale Fell Rescue Association, whose specialist skills were vital in bringing this rescue to a successful conclusion ❤️
