🏛️ WHO ACTUALLY MAKES DECISIONS AT SLOUGH BOROUGH COUNCIL?

Have you ever wondered who decides how council money is spent, which services are prioritised, or how local planning decisions are made?

Understanding how our council works is important for every resident.

Here are three key parts of local government:

🔹 Councillors represent residents, help shape policy and make decisions through the council’s democratic processes.

🔹 The Cabinet makes many of the council’s main executive decisions and oversees key service areas.

🔹 Council officers provide professional advice and carry out the council’s policies and services.

Different decisions follow different processes, and understanding who is responsible is the first step towards asking the right questions.

I’m continuing to learn more about how Slough Borough Council works so I can share useful information and better understand the issues residents raise.

UNDERSTANDING HOW OUR COUNCIL WORKS 🏛️

Good community work starts with listening, learning and understanding how decisions are made.

Over the coming months, I want to learn more about how Slough Borough Council works, how public money is spent, how planning decisions are made and how residents can have their voices heard.

I believe residents deserve clear information, transparency and accountability.

Whether the issue is roads, parking, fly-tipping, housing, public transport or our green spaces, it is important to understand the facts, identify who is responsible and look for practical solutions.

I will continue listening to residents, learning from local meetings and sharing useful information with our community.

A stronger community starts with informed residents and open conversations.

🧹 AZMAT’S IDEA: COMMUNITY CLEAN-UP DAYS

A cleaner Haymill doesn’t have to start with a big promise.

It can start with people coming together.

I would like to see regular Community Clean-Up Days across Haymill, bringing residents, local businesses, community groups and volunteers together to improve the areas where we live.

The idea is simple:

🧹 Identify local areas that need attention

👥 Bring residents and community groups together

🗑️ Work with the council to arrange the collection of rubbish

🏪 Encourage local businesses to support their neighbourhood

🌳 Take care of green spaces, streets and public areas

👏 Recognise the volunteers who give their time to help our community

This isn’t about expecting residents to do the council’s job.

It is about creating a stronger partnership between residents, the council, businesses and community organisations.

Small actions can make a big difference.

A cleaner street creates pride.

A cared-for green space creates community.

And when residents work together, we build a stronger neighbourhood.

I would love to see Community Clean-Up Days become a regular part of life in Haymill.

SLOUGH’S DATA CENTRE FUTURE: GROWTH, BUT AT WHAT COST?

Today I have written to Tan Dhesi to raise concerns about the continued expansion of data centres across Slough.

I want to be clear. I am not against technology, investment or the UK’s digital economy.

Slough has already played an important role in supporting the UK’s digital infrastructure. But as further development is proposed, I believe we need to properly understand the cumulative impact on our community.

My concerns include:

💧 Water resources
⚡ Electricity demand and infrastructure
🌳 Green spaces and biodiversity
🔊 Noise and quality of life
🏠 Land use and housing needs
🌡️ Waste heat and environmental impacts
🚗 Transport and infrastructure pressure
👥 Meaningful consultation with local residents

I am asking for a comprehensive assessment of the existing and proposed data centres in Slough, greater transparency around water and electricity demand, proper assessment of environmental impacts, and meaningful community engagement.

I am also asking tandhesi MP for his position on the Nature’s Rights Bill and whether he supports stronger protection for nature, green spaces, biodiversity and natural resources.

I believe Slough can support technology and economic growth while protecting the people and environment that make our borough a place to live.

Growth should be responsible, sustainable and fair.

🏢 DATA CENTRES ARE SHAPING SLOUGH. BUT ARE LOCAL COMMUNITIES BENEFITING? 🏢

Slough is home to one of Europe’s largest concentrations of data centres, making our town a key part of the UK’s digital economy.

These facilities support cloud computing, artificial intelligence, banking, healthcare, and many of the online services we use every day. They also bring investment and employment opportunities.

However, many residents have also raised important questions.

As more data centres are built, how do we ensure local communities benefit from this growth?

Some of the issues people have highlighted include:

⚡ Pressure on electricity infrastructure.
💧 Water use for cooling.
🚛 Construction traffic and disruption.
🌡️ Concerns about heat generated by large facilities.
🏘️ The impact on nearby communities.

I believe growth and community wellbeing should go hand in hand.

As Slough continues to develop, I would like to see:

✅ More apprenticeships and skilled jobs for local residents.
✅ Investment in roads, parks, and community facilities.
✅ Better engagement with residents before major developments.
✅ Transparency around environmental impacts.
✅ Long term planning that benefits both businesses and local people.

This is not about opposing progress.

It is about making sure the people who live in Slough share in the benefits of that progress.

🐘 TRUNKS ACROSS THE THAMES HAS ARRIVED IN SLOUGH! 💚

Have you spotted these amazing elephants around Slough?

I recently came across one of the beautiful sculptures and it is fantastic to see our streets and public spaces filled with colour, creativity and something that brings people together.

Trunks across the Thames is a free public art trail organised by Thames Hospice in partnership with Wild in Art. More than 90 elephant sculptures are appearing across Slough and Windsor this summer.

But there is an important reason behind the fun.

The trail is helping raise vital funds and awareness for Thames Hospice and the important care they provide to local families.

It is also a great opportunity for families, residents and visitors to explore different parts of our community and support local businesses along the way.

Well done to everyone involved in bringing this wonderful project to Slough. 🐘👏

🔥 HELP KEEP OUR PARKS AND OPEN SPACES SAFE 🔥

Hot and dry weather can quickly turn a small spark into a serious wildfire.

BBQs, campfires, ci******es and discarded litter can all create a fire risk.

Please help protect our parks, green spaces and local communities.

🔥 Do not start bonfires

🔥 Do not use disposable barbecues

🔥 Do not use fireworks

🚬 Dispose of cigarette ends and other litter properly

🍾 Glass bottles can also increase fire risk in hot weather

If you see a fire in an open space, call 999 immediately.

Let’s enjoy our parks responsibly and help keep Haymill and Slough safe for everyone.

My Vision for Haymill & Slough 2030 is about where we want to be in the future.

But change happens one step at a time.

Before we talk about the next big plans, I want to hear directly from the people who live here.

🌟 MY VISION FOR HAYMILL & SLOUGH 2030 🌟

Every community deserves a clear vision for the future.

Over the past few months, I have listened to residents, spoken with families, and shared practical ideas to improve life in Haymill and across Slough.

My vision is simple.

A cleaner, safer, greener, and more connected community where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.

By 2030, I would like to see:

🧹 Cleaner streets with less litter and fly tipping.

🚦 Better roads, smarter traffic management, and safer school routes.

🌳 More trees, greener streets, and better maintained parks.

🛝 Public parks with toilets, drinking water, and modern play facilities.

🚏 Better bus stops with seating, lighting, and real time travel information.

💡 Well lit streets and pathways where residents feel safe.

❤️ Public defibrillators in every ward to help save lives.

📢 Community notice boards that keep residents informed and connected.

⚡ More EV charging points for residents without driveways.

♻️ Local recycling and donation points that reduce waste and support charities.

📹 Better CCTV coverage to tackle anti social behaviour and fly tipping.

🏪 Strong support for local businesses and independent shops.

🏥 Accessible healthcare and public services.

🎓 More opportunities for children and young people.

🤝 A council that listens, works with residents, and delivers value for every pound of council tax.

This is not about politics.

It is about building a community that we can all be proud of.

I know one person cannot achieve everything alone, but together we can make a real difference.

I will continue listening, learning, and working with residents because the best ideas come from the people who live here every day.
