RAFAC is made up of two areas:

Air Training Corps - The ATC is the RAF's cadet force, divided into six regions, 34 wings and more than 900 squadrons within communities around the UK. Combined Cadet Force (RAF) - The CCF (RAF) is our section of the CCF which is made up of cadets from all three services, coming together in approximately 200 independent and state schools across the country

2. We will feature content of our cadets and volunteers which will often only have one name in it. This is to protect their privacy and security. Please refrain from adding further personal details about these individuals even if well intentioned.

3. No hate speech or bullying. We have a zero tolerance response to any comments that are deemed to be offensive, degrading or bigoted against things like race, religion, culture, gender, sexual orientation, gender or identity.

✈️ 611 Volunteer Gliding Squadron returns to the skies at RAF Honington! 🌤️

We are thrilled to share that 611 VGS has officially resumed flying operations at RAF Honington!
Following approval from AOC 22 Group, the team hit the ground running with a busy first week back in August, delivering Gliding Scholarships and Advanced Glider Training (AGT) for our Royal Air Force Air Cadets.

Highlights from the week included:

🥇 Sgt Amy Curtis receiving her AGT Gold Wings, presented by Chief Flying Instructor, Flt Lt Dan Easton

🏅 Additional Silver and Gold Wings awarded, alongside new Grade One qualifications so pilots can begin taking cadets on Gliding Induction Flights!

🛫 A special visit from Station Commander RAF Honington, Wg Cdr Hinde, who took to the air with Cadet Warrant Officer Russellcook.

A huge thank you to the team at 611 VGS, Central Gliding School, 2 FTS and RAF Honington for their dedicated support in making this return possible. Here’s to safely launching many more cadets skywards in the months ahead! 🚀

Extended Project Qualification (Air, Space and Cyber Focus) Success!

RAFAC cadets are continuing to demonstrate outstanding academic achievement through the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ), with this year's results highlighting both dedication and excellence.

An impressive 33% of participating cadets achieved either an A* or A grade, earning 28 and 24 UCAS points respectively. These valuable qualifications can make a significant contribution to university applications, helping young people access higher education and pursue ambitious future careers as well as helping to develop additional interests, knowledge, and skills.

The Air, Space and Cyber-focused EPQ challenges cadets to undertake an independent research project in their own time which is linked to the RAFAC training programme. Supported by taught elements and the guidance of volunteer mentors, participants develop critical thinking, research, planning and presentation skills that are highly valued by universities and employers alike.

The overall results were particularly encouraging, with 66% of cadets achieving grades between A* and B, and an outstanding 92% pass rate across the programme. These achievements reflect not only the commitment of the cadets themselves, but also the dedication of the volunteers and staff who support them throughout the qualification.

The EPQ continues to provide RAFAC cadets with an exceptional opportunity to explore subjects of personal interest while gaining a nationally recognised qualification. The success of this year's cohort is a testament to the ambition, resilience and academic potential of young people across the organisation.

READY. SET. GO! 🤖

With just a few days to go until 2026 begins, we’re taking a look at some of the things happening on camp, and there’s plenty to get excited about!

One of the highlights of Industry Day last year was the North Region Final of VEX Robotics with 11 RAF Air Cadets squadrons going head-to-head to put their robots, coding and teamwork to the test🏆

And VEX Robotics is back at this year. Bigger, better and ready to get competitive!

VEX gives young people the chance to design, build and programme their own robots before putting them to the ultimate test in a series of challenges. It’s not just about building a robot either — teams develop problem-solving, communication, collaboration and engineering skills along the way.

Here’s a look back at what they got up to last year… and we can’t wait to see what they bring to camp this time around! 👀

DID YOU KNOW?

At 2025, we introduced cadets to an exciting new area of the Progressive Training Syllabus, delivering the new Blue Drones training to 125 cadets throughout the week.

Using 2FTS drones for the first time at camp, cadets gained hands-on experience with Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems (RPAS), learning more about drone operations, aviation safety and the skills needed to operate in this growing area of technology.

Drone technology is becoming an increasingly important part of the future of aviation, aerospace and defence, and opportunities like this allow cadets to develop valuable STEM skills while exploring potential future careers.

This was the first time this capability had been delivered at this scale, and we’re looking forward to giving even more cadets the opportunity to experience this at 2026 🚀
