Children of Courage Awards
The Rotary Clubs of Sleaford and Sleaford Kesteven have combined to produce the annual Children of Courage Awards. These are presented to young people up to the age of 18 who have shown courage and fortitude. Courage is not only showing bravery in the face of danger, more often courage is the day-to-day determination and hard work dealing with, adjusting to and hopefully overcoming the obstacles and harsh realities that life may present.

Money for Shoeboxes
A welcoming visit to Little Hale Methodist Chapel, by President David Hockmeyer and Rtn Colin Fryer of the Rotary Club of Sleaford Kesteven. After some Christmas 2025 fundraising by the methodist community, they had decided to donate £120 to the Rotary Shoebox appeal, through our club.
The cheque was gratefully accepted by Pres. David from Irene Broderick, presented on behalf of the Chapel. These funds will go to boosting the number of boxes available to our local area, for filling in support of the 2026 campaign.
Our Club is supported by three others who promote the campaign through schools and various other groups
Also, we have local schools which we visit, a local women’s service organisation, plus a junior school, the Methodist church and our local pub all collecting shoeboxesfor the campaign. Most of these groups have been supporting the charity for several years. In 2025 we sent about 800 boxes, they were mainly sent to Ukraine and Romania. Any monetary assistance would be best used to purchase boxes for the 2026 campaign.
Please note that only the printed boxes can be sent, ordinary shoe boxes are not accepted, and neither are unboxed items.

Parkinson’s Disease
Members of the Rotary Club of Sleaford Kesteven were given a very interesting lecture on Parkinson’s Disease last night at the Finch-Hatton Arms in Ewerby. Nurses Emma Perry who is a Parkinson Disease Nurse (PND) specialist, and also team leader for Lincolnshire, and Jill Osbourne (also a PND specialist) explained how the Lincolnshire Community Health Services (LCHS) provide care across the whole of the county for those unfortunate enough to suffer from the disease. At the end of the presentation the Rotary Club gave a donation of £200 to help with improving the care provided.

50 years in Rotary
The Rotary Club of Sleaford Kesteven has just presented one of its members with a special certificate celebrating his 50 years as a Rotarian! Bill Martindale joined the Rotary Club of St. Albans-Verulamium at the end of January 1976 and stayed with them until 2004 including being the President in 1996. Moving to Lincolnshire, he immediately joined the Rotary Club of Sleaford Kesteven and has been the President (2011), Secretary (2006-2011) and has been involved with interaction with the younger generation including the annual ‘Children of Courage Awards’. He was also the Assistant Governor for District 1070 between 2013-2016. Awarded a Rotary Paul Harris Fellowship in 2011, this was increased by a ‘Plus 1’ in 2020 (a rare distinction).
Congratulations Bill.

Rotary Shoeboxes
Thanks to the generosity of the people and schools of Sleaford and the surrounding villages – even as far as Spalding - the two Rotary Clubs in the town (Sleaford and Sleaford Kesteven) have gathered together over 600 shoeboxes that will be sent to Rotary Clubs in Eastern Europe and the Ukraine for onward supply to children in the countries. A big thanks to Rotarian Walter of Sleaford Kesteven who has stored them in his warehouse at Drayton Welding and Tool Connections in Sleaford prior to onward distribution.
This Rotary scheme has been operating for 30 years and in that time has sent over one million boxes to underprivileged children.
